Boyd pitched eight seasons for the Red Sox (1982-89) before signing with the Expos as a free agent. His career was cut short two years later when he developed blood clots in his right shoulder that required injections of blood thinners into his stomach. <o></o>
Boyd, who went 78-77 with a 4.04 ERA in 10 seasons, believed he was blackballed from baseball because of his flamboyant nature. The right-hander was known for excellent control and an array of pitches, which now includes a knuckleball. <o></o>
