WTF is going on with Mike Richards of the L.A. Kings?

I've been trying to find out, and even TMZ doesn't have the scoop. The L.A. Kings off ice troubles continue. First Voynov gets busted, then Stoll get's busted smuggling Coke into a Las Vegas pool party. Now this, but what exactly is this? Richards was about to be traded during the draft and the plug got pulled.

Now his entire contract has been voided, and the NHL has signed off on it, which is unprecedented in the NHL. Everyone's hush-hush on what's happened. Something happened on the American/Canadian border, that the Canadian authorities are investigating, that's about all anyone knows. The Kings, NHL, NHLPA, and Richards aren't saying anything.

Are the Kings just looking for a creative way to dump salary and get around the Cap, or is it something big?

The Kings have pretty much cleaned house on the reasons they missed the play offs, plus added Milan Lucic. They will be adding another solid defenseman after July 1st after all the bonuses are paid. They not only will make the playoffs, they will be the 1 seed in the Pacific next year.

Mike Richards just signed a one year deal with the Washington Capitals. What an interesting storyline this would be if the Kings face the Capitals in the Stanley Cup Finals this year. Both teams are currently leading their divisions.
