Would there be less bean-ball incidents if they did away with the DH?

Seems there are more bean-balls in the AL because the pitcher doesn't bat. Do you think there would be less if they did away with the DH in the AL?

hell yes! think pedro would be tossing at batter's heads KNOWING his next time up HE would get one in the ear hole? can you imagine if clemens got to face pedro the next 1/2 inning! if you thought the fight saturday was good - imagine what would have happened when clemens stuck one in pedro's ear hole! WW III would have started!

it still baffles me to hear this time and again

THE PITCHER ISN'T THE ONE WHO GETS BEANED IN RETALIATION ANYWAY!!!

just look at the NL, where pitchers bat: when a pitcher beans someone on the other team, who on his team gets beaned in return? NOT HIM, but rather the cleanup/marquee hitter

hence, having a DH is irrelevant

Absolutely would Charlie. I played this game before the DH. Trust me, the pitchers gave it a lot of thought. Remember Estes and Clemens. National attention and good for the game. The DH rule sucks because of this, lack of late inning strategy and its simply not baseball the way it was meant to be played. Been harping on this for 30 years.

kenuk, that is not a fair question as my short term memory is shot. But the long term one is pretty good and I'll tell you that way back when in A Ball, if that counts for anything, I was privy to more than one conversation on the mound that went something like this.

"Jesus skip do I really have to, you know I'm coming up next inning."

this is not the case when you have Manny, Sammy, et al as targets

my memory isn't too great either, but all I have to do is look back upon this very season to know that an NL pitcher is never the one to pay for his beaning

No kenuk, I beg to differ, in A ball pitchers are or were seldom the best hitters or even competent hitters cerainly with exceptions. They bat ninth for a reason. Yes in High School for sure, still sometimes in college. But that is not the norm in pro ball at any level. You perhaps do not realize the fine degree of seperation that exists in professional baseball from one level to another.

Mr. Jones - Are you suggesting I was an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers back in the 60s with the nickname of "Paw Paw" ????

Hell Charlie I grew up in Chicago, but spent some early youth summers with relatives on Mettetal Street [I know I spelled that wrong], anyway it was within walking distance of Grand River. We must be about the same age.

BTW Charlie, remember that thread you started about memorable sporting events we've been to in person for an RX shirt and I told the story about seeing Ali in the Golden Gloves in Chicago as a kid. Who ever won that?

Man I've been making a total and complete fool of myself daily and doing everything but crawl through broken glass to try and get one of those suckers.

Mr. Jones - Angelle (one of our moderators) is in the process of ordering more shirts (should take a few weeks). At that time, I will as you three questions one question about the REAL Charlie Maxwell. If you get that question correct, we will send you a shirt. So, how DO you know about Maxwell?

OK Charlie it's a deal. Remember the man finished his career with the White Sox, still managed to hit almost .300 in '62, and don't even bother to ask me what day of the week he was known for hitting especially well on.
