Worst 'ZEBRA' job of all time...Vote Inside

the stanley cup finals have brought several intellectual debates on the impact that the officials can have on the outcome of a game or a SERIES....some will say that this series (flames/Bolts) stands among one of the greatest 'ream jobs' in history (personally, I dont agree...officiating was horrible & it did benefit Tampa, however, it was not IMHO shockingly agregious.....)

My vote would have to be:

The biggest ass ream in history I have ever witnessed has to be when the Officials allowed Brett Hull's goal in the Stanley Cup Finals that year when EACH & EVERY other time that year that a foot had been in the crease the goal was allowed.

Didn't the zebras completely f uck up in the GIANTS game when San Fran came back to beat them at the end of the game....

Name some other famous 'ZEBRA JOBS' no matter what the sport...

Anyway that given year in Hockey they had changed the rules so that NO MATTER WHAT, if your foot was in the crease it was NO GOAL....Even if the Foot was in the crease at the other end & not affecting the PLAY....

Throughout the year Fans & Media were moaning as the League was DISALLOWING many goals which should have been allowed however due to a PINKY TOE in the CREASE, even if it was at the other end of the play they would disallow it...They called it religiously that year...about the only thing I have ever seen the NHL do consistently...UNTIL....Brett Hull's....

His foot is without a doubt, in the crease...In fact there are two feet in the crease in the pictue above...

Does anybody know? did the NHL ever APOLOGIZE to buffallo for that...Buffallo went into Big Financial Problems after that....you never know, that may not have happened had they won the CUP

Any quotes on what the League's official stance was on this Play...

In 72 I was 24. Another beauty was when the Yankees beat the Orioles 5-4 in Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS when 12-year-old fan Jeffrey Maier reaches over the fence and catches Derek Jeter's flyball to right before Baltimore right fielder Tony Tarasco can make a play. Umpire Rich Garcia, who has run out to the right-field wall, fails to call fan interference on the play and rules the ball a game-tying homer. The Yanks go on to win the game on Bernie Williams' homer in the 11th.

And if it hadn`t been for that call Baltimore would have likely been going to the World Series (they would have won the 1st two gms @NY, instead the series was tied 1-1)

The one that comes to mind for me was Game 6 ,1985 W.S., the Don Denkinger call at 1st base...you can argue that his blown call single handidly cost St.Louis and gave Kansas City its only W.S. title...

Sports is all about politics man. The Dallas goal should'nt have counted with the rules they had that year but I dont think the NHL really cared who won. This year the NHL wanted actually Gary Betmen wanted Tampa to win with out a doubt in my mind to make hockey more popular down south and the officiating proved it.

TV replays show that St. Louis pitcher Todd Worrell had clearly beaten Jorge Orta to the bag, but Don Denkinger's call sets the stage for a two-run Royals rally in a critical 2-1 victory. Kansas City goes on to win the Series in seven games.

I remember at the end of that ridiculous GIANTS game where San Fran came back from a zillion points to win the game...on that last contraversial play....

I was listening to an ANALYST commenting on that & he stated that there was no less than 8 errors in officiating made on that Play...

Of course it was only fitting that San Fran Came back anyway & all the talk was about the comeback & not the missed calls in that Play....

Anyone remember what the mistakes were? (too much ganga has shot my memory...lol)

that is the play exactly...I cannot remember all the facts but the analyst I was listening too was talking about that play & how no less than 8 OFFICIAL mistakes took place on that Play...

There was no Pass Interference...that was one of them....But there were a bunch of Others aswell...

Well it was a botched field goal and a couple of Giant linemen went downfield, one of them was tackled but it was not interference because he was an ineligible receiver downfield. The refs made the right call in this case. The game itself was full of controversy including a fight.

difficult for me to argue as the details are very hazy for me...however I was in the car listening to talk Radio & the analyst went through this play step by step by step...& he sure had me beleiving it was full of errors...I thought I remembered that the receiver was in fact eligble (but I could very well be wrong)...Wasnt there two field goal attempts aswell? It was more than just the interference & the ineligible receiver... This analyst had it all broken down & he had come up with like a ton of errors on the very same play....
