I'd rather watch a bad gambling movie than a good girlie flick any day.

Suprised how good that movie about Stu Ungar was. Guy from Soprano played him.

I enjoyed the Ungar movie, though the guy from the Sopranos was physically all wrong for the slight and Jewish Ungar (being as he's a good sized Italian guy). Not that he did a bad job acting, but if you already knew about Ungar it was hard to buy him in the role. They had to fudge a lot of the personal biographical stuff so they wouldn't get sued. I wrote a review on my blog and the producer of the film saw it and wrote me addressing some of my gripes. He was a really cool guy--not pissed off that I had a few beefs with his film, but genuinely interested in discussing it with me. They filmed a lot of the New York footage in Nashville on a shoestring budget.

"Bookies" with Johnny Galecki and Lukas Haas is the worst sports betting movie ever. Nothing else comes close.

I've never seen this--I saw the plot synopsis on HBO or Showtime a few times and it sounded hilarious. Never have been able to catch it or remember to Tivo it...

It's not a gambling movie, but I love the Flintstones episode where Fred reveals that he's a gambling degenerate. The paperboy starts him off by playing marbles and its a downward spiral from there. Everytime someone talks about betting his eyes get real wide and he starts screaming BET-BET-BET-BET!!!! Arnold the Paperboy ends up with a lot of the Flintstone family furniture before Wilma intervenes...

Another good Flintstones episode is the one where the Great Gazoo starts giving Fred and Barney winning tips at the dinosaur racing track. The dino racing footage--complete with monkeys as jockeys--is classic...

If you like artsy indy films, there's a sports gambling theme in the movie "Buffalo 66". The film stars Vincent Gallo and my dream woman, Christina Ricci. Gallo gets out of prison after doing time for a crime he didn't commit. He took a rap to settle a bookie debt after losing a ton of money on the 1991 Superbowl. When he gets out, the first thing he does is plan to assasinate Scott Norwood(called "Scott Wood" in the film), the kicker who missed the potential game winning field goal.

anybody that is < 22 years of age will tell you that 'Bookies' is a great flick, haha. Its pretty bad.

I refuse to see 'Two For the Money'...i read post describing the opening scene...i forget what it was about, but it included a pretty unrealistic football/betting scenario...wasnt it something about a team kicking a field goal w/ one second left when winning? I forget, but after reading that I refused to watch it.
