Sigh, yet another 4th Q save for my POW. TEN needed a late TD throw from Collins to win the gm, and cover. My DOW was a complete washout, as DET proved that their season is over. And my Monday pick went down in glorious flames because NO (except for their run "D" and Brees) really didn't want to win. Man do they miss Colston. And man, is MIN unimpressive. Any decent team would've blown NO out of the water with the gifts they gave away.
POW now stands at a mediocre 3-2, Monday Nighters 1-1, and DOW 0-1.
Well, one of my choices for my Dog of the Week last wk was MIA. This wk, I'm going out on a limb and making them my POW. I thought for certain they'd be giving pts to HOU, but they opened up a 3 pt dog. I've watched all of MIA's gms thus far, and they're really improving every wk. Beating both NE and SD back to back is incredible. And if I hadn't watched both gms, I would think the same as the public, that they're fluky wins. But in both gms, there weren't any Special Teams TD's, "D" TD's, or much TO's for NE & SD. MIA only had 4 sacks on NE, and 2 on SD. MIA's "D" is playing blue collar "D", mainly stuffing the run, and getting adequate pressure on the QB. Because MIA's biggest weakness is their secondary. Which is why they couldn't keep up with ARI. But, with just Andre to focus in on, and the pressure they'll get on Schaub (who was out last wk), I think they'll contain HOU's "O". Slaton shouldn't have much success, as MIA contained both Sproles & LT, along with Edge/Hightower and NE's RB committee. HOU has been horrid in the 2nd half, so my POW could be rescued in the 4th again! But I think MIA's surging "D" combined with their ultra disciplined "O" will get an early lead, and keep it. The Wildcat "O" has been awesome to watch, but what I really noticed was MIA's oline/TE/WR's opening nice holes for Ricky and Brown. Their blocking is top notch, and HOU will be hard pressed to stop it. This then sets up Pennington's play-action, which is his forte. His passing has been sleeping pill boring, but Exlax effective. It's so frustrating to see his passes go low to WR's, causing them to slow down to catch them, or going out of bounds, but those passes will NEVER be picked off. In fact his lone INT on the season was a tipped pass in their first gm vs NYJ. I know there's no QB controversy in HOU, but having rumblings of Sage starting for struggling Schaub, then Sage playing in Wk 5, now Schaub coming back, that's a little disruptive to an "O". I see MIA winning a tight one.
MIA 23
HOU 17
My DOW is obviously MIA, so I'll be skipping that this wk.
My honorable mention plays are:
DAL -5
PHI -5
CIN/NYJ Over 44 1/2
SD -5
5 is the lucky #! DAL is better on the road, and while ARI's "O" may keep this one close, the NFC East is FAR better than the West. Even w/out Westbrook, PHI's pass rush will have JT on the run all gm. McNabb breaks out here after "team meeting". This Total really boggles me, but I'm going with my gut and expecting a huge score for CIN/NYJ. Favre & co coming off a bye, and CIN looking to improve their passing "O" on a still improving NYJ "D", makes this a 60 pt type gm, IMO. And the late gm is a primetime stage @ home, where SD plays it's best. This gm reminds me of their gm with IND last yr, when Peyton threw 6 INT's. And Cassel is no Peyton.
