Man does Singletary have this team playing with fire. SF looked terrific on "D" the entire gm vs a truly high-powered "O". ARI got smacked in the mouth, and they didn't know how to respond. Now they have to go on the east coast road to avoid going 0-2. Yikes.
Anyway, Wormy Pix POW starts off 1-0.
This wk, I like the Ravens +3 1/2. BAL couldn't gameplan for the brand new "O" & "D" KC was sporting with Croyle, so they had a hard time adjusting. But, you had to like what you saw of Flacco and the BAL oline. Although plays broke down, Flacco still made key completions, most notably the TD throw to McGahee. And despite KC keeping the gm very tight, BAL still stuck with the run. And what a run gm they have, with McClain (yipee kyay), Rice and McGahee eating up clock behind a very solid line with newcomer Matt Birk @ center. I guess I could talk about their "D", but what haven't you heard already? On paper, BAL gave up 24, but 1 TD was a blocked FG return, the other was from the BAL 6 yd line after a long INT return. Then, thanks to a 50 yd pass play, Succop kicked a 53 yd FG. KC's only true scoring drive was in the 4th, helped by a 15 yd roughing the passer penalty. So BAL's "D" didn't struggle. However, SD's did. Running away from NT Williams, OAK had a pretty good rushing day (150 yds). And unlike KC, OAK had many sustained drives, and they scored on all of them except for a silly INT by Russell in the redzone, and a FL by McFadden. Merriman was inaffective, and TE Zach Miller had a big day. Heap had a big day for BAL too. SD's "O" might be able to save the day, but they'll most likely need to do it w/out All-World C Nick Hardwick (critical to run gm), RG Vasquez, and LT (also critical to run gm, despite what most fans say about the 30 yr old). If BAL can keep Sproles inside the tackles, SD will be forced to be 1 dimensional, which is never good with Ed Reed roaming the secondary. I know RB Bennett is supposedly doing good in practice, but c'mon. Plus, bettors gotta love Harbaugh for running in a TD on 4th down to cover the 13 pt spread, instead of kicking a FG to go up by 10 with a minute left.
