I always suspected that SB teams normally don’t do well the next yr due to player turnover & having the bull’s-eye on their backs all yr. It’s obvious that coaching turnover is also a large reason for that. PHI losing DeFilippo & Reich has really affected their “O”. 2 wks to prep for a pivotal div gm, @ hm on primetime & they did awful. 3 pts in the 1[SUP]st[/SUP]half. And play design was really vanilla, like DAL usually is, but Garrett actually had great play-calling. PHI’s “D” broke down in the 4[SUP]th[/SUP]Q, but PHI had 2 shots @ tying gm, & it still goes back to being anemic in 1[SUP]st[/SUP]half. Then ATL does the unthinkable & gets blown out by the lowly Browns. I thought there was a great chance for CLE to win that gm, but not by that much. Pathetic effort that likely doomed the Falcons’ season.
Regular Season POW 6-4, Teasers 7-3, GOY 0-0, Overall 27-21-1 (28-21-1 undocumented).
HOU/WAS Under 42: I rarely have totals as a POW due to unpredictability of TOs, field position & in-gm injuries. However, there comes a time when 2 good “D”s & struggling “O”s matchup for a dream punting main event. For these 2 “D”s, we have #4 scoring vs #7, #9 vs #17 in ypg, & #5 vs the run vs #6. And in case you were wondering, this is the #7 punter going against the #8 punter (in amount of punts). If all that wasn’t enough, the true key for me here is WAS’ oline health. They’ve lost 2 starters for the yr, & All-pro LT Trent Williams is playing hurt. It’s no coincidence that WAS’ “O” has gone downhill the last 2 gms due to these Hog injuries. Against the anemic “D”s of ATL & TB, they’ve scored 14 & 16 respectively. Even w/a healthy club for most of the yr & AP having a renaissance yr, WAS is 6[SUP]th[/SUP]lowest scoring team @ 19 ppg (only TEN, JAX, OAK, ARI & BUF are worse). HOU is only a little better @ 24 ppg, which is largely helped by their 42 & 37 pt outbursts vs MIA & IND. Both squads have very reliable kickers who they use a lot (Fairbairn 19-22 & Hopkins 17-19). HOU is a big-play “O”, so hopefully WAS’ secondary doesn’t allow the over-the-top plays from big-armed Watson to DeAndre. Helping there should be S DJ Swearinger, who is playing w/a chip on his shoulder thanks to Bill O’Brien apparently bad mouthing him after he left HOU 3 yrs ago. Both teams are an identical 6-3 Under so far this yr. The teams that they faced w/those Overs included GB, ATL, IND & NOR. Obviously not those types of “O”s or QBs here.
