Everyone loves an underdog — and surging prices of World Series tickets are the latest proof of that adage.

The Chicago Cubs' trip to baseball's premier game, which broke a 71-year curse when the team defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers late Saturday, has sent ticket prices on a tear, according to TicketIQ.

The site's data show the fall classic is shaping up to be the priciest in at least six years, with the average price of Cubs tickets tracking well above $6,600. The average asking price for Cleveland Indians tickets are around $3,500, TicketIQ said.
The American League Champion Indians, also an underdog team battling a long history of post-season disappointments, have home field advantage throughout the seven game series. The Indians last won a World Series in 1948, but earned a playoff trip to the big game in 1997.

TicketIQ shows that the minimum cost of entrance to Game One is about $1,200; when the series shifts to Chicago for Game Three, the minimum ask price shoots up to about $2,600.

Despite the fact that most of the games will be played in Cleveland, the Cubs are favored to win the series, according to Vegas bookmakers.

If social media is any barometer, Chicago also appears to have fan enthusiasm on their side — or the support one particularly high profile fan, at least:

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly cited the last year the Indians were in the World Series.

A lot of these prices are, jack them up now for that and see if anybody buys them.

Realistically, Im seeing $15,000 behind dugout and $3500-$5500 for cheap seats. I would have bit the bullet I think at ~$1500 a tick, I just can't justify $7000 (the lady didn't appreciate me asking if she'd mind staying at home...)

Thought Cleveland might have been cheaper, but not much. Insanity.

I'm not shelling that out for WS tickets. Heading back home from Chicago today.

Game 6 NLCS was my splurge.

Will be rooting for the WS in front of my TV in sunny Bama.

LOL..well there's nothing wrong with that either. That's where I'll be. Buddies want to go up and hang in the street. That just doesn't sound appealing to me anymore. Asshle to elbow and can't see the game???

Heard Cubby Bear, and I assume all other bars, charging $200+/hr for table. My couch sounds good.

Cubby Bear had a line that stretched all the way to Racine Ave at 4pm Saturday, 3 hours before first pitch. Crazy.

Most expensive tickets sold:

Cleveland Indians: $4,600 (Game 1, Field Box 144) | Chicago Cubs: $15,400 (Game 4, Club Box 26)

Cheapest tickets sold:

Cleveland Indians: $325 (Game 1, Sec 504) | Chicago Cubs: $1,800 (Game 4, Standing Room Only)

Cleveland tickets are currently reasonable for a World Series game. But in order to see the Cubbies on their home turf? It’s going to cost you a ridiculous amount of lettuce.
