He lost one big hand (4 fours) but came back and ended up the day in the middle of the pack and ready to move on to day 5.

could somebody explain to me how many of these World Series of Poker tourneys there are a year. I ask because I read Phil Hellmouth latest poker book and he lists a bunch of guys with multiple rings (you must get a ring if your the cahmp). Anyway, if you add up the rings from just the people mentioned its over 24. That would be 24 years just there alone? not to mention some of the single ring winners. Is there like 4 of these a year where you can win a ring??? (Plus it is always on TV?)

Wolrd Series should be once a year. Give the others a different name

Please inform me.

They aren't rings, they are bracelets. There are about 25 tournaments a year, it varies year to year, but only one is for the World Championship. That one tournament is the one everyone dreams of winning. The rest are just very high stakes tournaments that are in the month or so that the tournament takes place at Binions. Its hard to win any bracelet, but the one that matters most is awarded in the tournament that makes it to TV.

The WPT is a Holde-em tournament that moves from country to country, Mostly in the western-hemisphere, places like Aruba, Costa Rica, Panama, and several casinos in the US. Each stop has a champion for that particular week. The tour then has its grand finale at the Bellagio in Las Vegas for quite a bit of money. Anyway a lot of these so called champs come from these type of tournaments. The real prize though is Binion's World Series of Poker, this is the super bowl of poker, they play around 10 different games but the big one is Texas Hold-em. Win the Binion's Holdem tournament and you are considered the worlds best. They give the winner a Platinum bracelet and almost a million dollars.

It's not live, won't say who won if you don't know. I enjoy the hell out of watching it. Helmuth and Sam Grizzle had me almost crying the way they go back and forth. Phil is a bad sport as you can see, has a reputation amongst poker players for being a whiner. Hard group to stand out from as poker players are big babies to begin with.

the World Series of Poker is held at Binion's Horseshoe every year in the spring. There are several tournaments within the World Series, over twenty I believe. Any one of these tournament winners qualifies as a world champion and wins a bracelet and cash. The one tournament they call "THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP" is the final no limit hold 'em event. There are other lower limit hold 'em events within the WSOP but the final tourney is the one considered the TRUE championship.
