Holding on to the EURO win? The European Championship is one of the most, if not the most difficult, soccer titles to claim. Prior to Portugal’s 2016 victory the title had been claimed by Spain 3, Germany 3, France 2 and 1 each from Italy, Dutch, Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Denmark and Greece.
Portugal certainly hasn’t been considered a power like some other European nations or SA nations, so the EURO win is a remarkable accomplishment. He was also instrumental in bringing them to another EURO final, semi-final and quarter-final before winning it. He’s certainly carried the team at times, but they’ve typically had a pretty formidable squad, but nothing like the elite powers. Portugal hasn’t had the same success in the WC, but they did finish fourth and make a QF during Ronaldo’s tenure before crashing out in the group stage in 2014.
To suggest they are trash is pure ignorance.
