Just like in hockey, I don't bet on soccer, but have looked at the lines and am confused about the differences in the moneyline and a pick em as the odds are different. Considering a possible play on Ecuador tomorrow and I see a moneyline of +562 but a pick of +515, while Germany is -199 and -565 respectively. Can someone explain the difference to me.

Moneyline means if the game ties you get a refund, if you bet the pick you are likely playing a 3-way with the tie option so a tie would be a loss for the bet.

three way betting vs two way betting, if it is three way betting you lose if it ties

You sure that's not reversed. I notice with the moneyline, it seems to have a 3-way with a draw, while the pick is on it's own.

Sorry OMT, you're right. The lower price on the favorite makes it obvious which you are dealing with. Lots of bettors don't mind laying huge prices on favorites on the "pick" line because they figure worse thing that happens is they draw.

Only a few more days left of this and then we get even more complicated lines coming up. There will be "to advance" lines, "to win in 90 minutes" lines, and some others.

at PINNACLE 2-WAY betting falls under the headline of SPREAD....

3-WAY BETTING falls under the headling of MONEYLINE....

Basically, if 'Draw' is an option, you lose if you take either side....

Ted, did you get a hot tip on Ecuador?

Savant:

No! I just like the speed they show and the way they played both games and the German teams backline defense is suspect. Believe I heard they were the third best team from the latin countries behind Brazil and Argentina.

Wild Bill:

As always, appreciate your help in answering my question.

Can someone explains this line, for tomorrow's Ecu/Ger game:

Ecuador -149 +1, +1.5
Germany +119 -1, -1.5
Over +120 2.5, 3
Under -129 2.5, 3

This should help answer your question.

  1. Handicap Betting: Soccer games may have either a Single Handicap or a Double Handicap.
Single Handicap: This bet type is similar to a bet on the spread in basketball.
    For example:
    Arsenal
    Newcastle

    -1, -125
    +1, +113

If Arsenal wins the match by two goals or more, Arsenal bettors win and Newcastle bettors lose. If the match is drawn or if Newcastle wins, Newcastle bettors win and Arsenal bettors lose. If Arsenal wins by exactly one goal, all bettors receive a refund.
Double Handicap: This bet type splits a wager into two bets, each with the same moneyline, but at a different single handicap.
    For example:
    Real Madrid
    Barcelona

    -1 and -1.5, -108
    +1 and +1.5, +100

A client who bets $100 on Real Madrid actually has two separate bets on Real Madrid: $50 on Real Madrid -1 at -108 and $50 on Real Madrid -1.5 at -108.
A client who bets $50 on Barcelona actually has two separate bets on Barcelona: $25 on Barcelona +1 at +100 and $25 on Barcelona +1.5 at +100.

Just to help out...

There's the column where you can pick either team for the ML or the Draw option. So if you take the ML there, and the teams draw, you lose.

However you'll see a column, usually the first, that just has both teams as PK. Usually, like Germany here, it has really high juice. Here if you bet Germany and they tied, you'd push your bet. You get your money back. Same thing if you get Ecuador (+515). If they win, you win. If they draw, you get your money back.

Hope that helps.

Thanks you for your time. Very clear now. All I have to do now is decide to pull the trigger. Think I might get a better price closer to game time.

An interesting thing about having all these type of lines is that often you can get the same bet at a better price, I call it "in house" line shopping.
For example at Pinnacle right now:
Poland is -139 on the 3 way money line but at -.5 on the spread line they are only -134.
This is essentially the same bet because they must win by 1 to collect on the 3 way and they must win by 1 to collect on the spread. Ties lose both bets.

Another example of "in house" line shopping.
Say you think Costa Rica can win but might draw or lose by no more than one then you might like this combo play:

Costa rica +.5 and +1 at -107 risking 100 to win $93.46 2 separate bets as explained in earlier post above.
If CR wins or draws you win both bets. Net $93.46
If CR loses by 1 then you tie one and lose one. Net -$50
Of course if they lose by 2 or more you're toast. Net -$100

But you can bet on your own the following
CR +1 -153 $50 to win $32.68
CR +.5 +125 $50 to win $62.50
If CR wins or draws you win both bets. Net $94.88
If CR loses by 1 then you tie one and lose one. Net -$50
Toast Net -$100

You win an extra $1.42 per $100 if things go well and lose no more if they dont.:103631605

Play around with the various wager options before you commit and you too could find some extra value for the grabbin!!:suomi:
