I've been working in this bussiness for over 5 years now. The article mentions one very important point you have to take into consideration.... it's true you make a decent living, but the hours you put in is something to think about. Sometimes you wonder if it is worth it to make a considerable amount of money when you sometimes don't even have the time to spend it.... I've had about three weeks vacation all added in this 5 years, and honestly it is exhausting at some point.

Consider all the great people you will be serving. Hearing bad beat stories all day.
Asked the same questions by squares, etc. Just like another day at Rx

in the beggining (NASA & SBG)
most of the employees came from
preppie schools, is considered
just a place for those who don't
know nothing.. except they
know english, and for that
they get well paid in comparision with
other local industries... only a politician could beat those salaries...

in my case i could say the benefit of this industry as a TEC, is the advantaje of playing with a lot of expensive and high class equipment, PBX/Servers/Routers/Fiber Optic, Satellite Dishes, i haven't seen any other industry to let the local ones to play and self-learn how to implement new technologies...

we have 3 great universities in here (The public ones) they are perfect theorically and of course they will not invest in get those kind of equipments to let new students to play around with them...

EJP When you work in a book where most of the clerks are laid off in low season and they start hiring new personnel, they need people to stay and start trainig those new clerks, i only took about 3 days off each year. That happened to me in the first 3 years...the last 2 I had 4 days vacation working as a manager each year. I'm not saying they didn't recognize that (financially speaking), and maybe i made a mistake accepting the money instead of the time off, but working 6 days a week with no weekends off is a normal shedule for either a clerk or manager in a book.

I all depends...with $1500 to $2500 a month down here you can make a pretty decent living... if you are single, you can even make it with less than that.

I can relate to subzaero, in 5 years I have never been away from a computer for more than 2 days (and thats when I went with wife to the highest mountain here in CR where they don't have telephone let alone internet)

The advantages/disadvantages of working in a book I guess are related to whether or not you are some kind of management

If you are a clerk, its simply a higher paying job than the majority in CR, nothing more nothing less, after I watched a couple of clerks engaging in a lenghty scream match over the phone I knew I would have a heart attack if I ever had to do that

General..

Customer Service is the most important part of the book..Owners and top level management never get to the problem, until its really a problem..And by that time, the customer, right or wrong, has more of a viable complaint..

With the new problems in advertising, their is more equity on the playing field..Players have more choices than ever, and keeping a customer is the goal..

Finding competent help in CR is very challenging..The good people stay where they are..Getting Americans to move here is difficult..

Other than the line manager,CR is where it all starts and ends..

Regarding the schedule, after a while you get used to it. When I first began I was fresh out of my high school graduation and immediately began working and enjoyed the salary, after a while I was able to manage university, social life, and the job.

As for looking for proper customer service employees. You can recruite the best people but the people responsible are the ones that train the employees and supervise. Proper training, administration, and using the right tools will allow any sportsbook, online casino, and any other e-gaming company to have a reputable CS.

I could see where getting American help would be tough, considering the re-locating.

You know that every time you give me a number to call I call it. Only problem is that I am not really a good designer.
