Indians: After a strong seven innings against the Reds on June 26, Sowers took a step back in a loss to the White Sox on Wednesday. He was strong for four scoreless innings before the outing began to get away from him in the fifth. He went on to give up five runs on 11 hits with a walk and two strikeouts in six innings. Sowers has had trouble staying aggressive and staying effective against a lineup when he faces hitters a third time through the order.
White Sox: It was vintage Buehrle on display last Thursday night in Kansas City, with the southpaw giving up one run on six hits over 8 1/3 innings, as he won for the 20th time in his career against the Royals and picked up career win No. 130 overall. Buehrle took a shutout into the ninth, striking out one and not issuing a walk. He was also extremely efficient, never throwing more than 15 pitches in an inning and going to a three-ball count just once, against David DeJesus to start the contest. Buehrle will come back Tuesday on normal rest, factoring in Monday's off-day, meaning he gets two more starts before the All-Star break instead of one and will start Chicago's first-half finale at the Metrodome. Buehrle has a 9-13 career record against the Indians but a 72-41 mark at U.S. Cellular Field, and is 2-0 vs the Indians since 2007 with a 1.65 ERA.
