Congratulations GD. After paying the bills for a few slow horses myself, I know exactly how hard it is to make your way into the winners circle. I hope its the first of many for you.

How about never, Labeeb. Those stables are a long walk from Vegas.

That's what I thought. In racing it's usually best to try and get information first-hand instead of relying on "good sources", conjecture, or general hearsay.

Labeeb,
Don't mean to offend. Just a nickname, whether or not anything to rumors is of no matter to me. I would love to have some Lake horses or the success of them. He's a winner and that's the name of the game. I could care less what all trainers do to prep their horses including mine. I did look into some partnerships with Lake horses and if I felt they had best fit my budget and needs would not have hesitated to enter them.

Gijoe,
I will be off until that Saturday because the folks are in town, but if it's running I will let you know and we can meet up to root for victory.

Viejo,
I don't think it will ever get to that point. I want it to be fun and a hobby, and at those levels unless you hit lightning in a bottle it fits neither. Maybe one nice stakes race and a race where I'm at the track and can go to the winner's circle. That's all I ask.
I'll save the Breeders Cup and the Derby's for the millionaires and Baffert/Pletchers of the world.

GB,
I just get a little tired of all the accusations because by people saying Scott is a cheat, his owners are transitively cheats as well. So I tend to take it a little personally. If people were to ever see how his operation runs, it's an incredible machine. He is non-stop 24/365. His program is not for everyone. It is VERY aggressive and his costs run much higher than others relative to the circuit he's running at with the exception of NYRA. I have the bills to prove it!

Labeeb,
Understood. Either way he has an incredible success rate picking up claims. Like I said, I do not care one way or the other. I'm sure there is a premium to be paid on some partnerships and if the success is equal to that, it is well worth it.
I am a neophyte at this and I am very pleased with what I have learned, regardless of success or not.

Congrats GD! Would love to get into this myself someday. If you don't mind me asking, what percentage of this horse do you own and how did you get into it?

Johnny,
Sorry didn't see sooner, had a busy day at work.

To answer your questions:
I researched several partnerships over the internet and contacted a few via email and phone to see which one I was most comfortable with. I'm sure a few others on here know far more than me and can point you in the right direction. I did discover quite a few partnerships I would describe as ripoffs or even tax writeoffs, so be careful.

I own or owned small percentages in several horses. I was up to 4 before a few got claimed away, but I was confused as to what I actually had invested in each. I currently have a parts of two horses, that are low level claimers based at Penn. Honestly, I don't know the exact percentages off the top of my head, but I can tell you it is just small discretionary income and not something I consider life-changing.

Cool stuff GD.

Last night I was looking at http://www.ownracehorses.com/, a 5% share of a $5,000 claimer is $275 including licenses and such. Not sure what sites are reliable and what aren't. This is the only one I've looked at so far. I'm just on my way out the door for the night, but I'd love to ask you a few more questions or get into this further sometime either in this thread or I might make my own. Thanks.

Johnny,
There are lots of things about partnerships you need to read the fine details on. Monthly expenses can eat up a great portion. There are upfront only partnerships that only pay a small percentage of purse money back. All different kinds are out there, some good lots bad. I urge you to take your time and research it thoroughly.
Also utilize some of the different horse owners on this forum. And I don't mean me, I mean the ones that really know what they are doing.
