Yeah true it's not their fault

And let's be honest, here we see the punishment aa extreme

We just have to understand & remind ourselves that rules & beliefs are different in other parts of the world

Especially when it has to do with something they've always been so strict about
There’s ppl in that country that get away with murder in broad daylight

she’s facing this sentence bc she’s a pawn in between 2 imperialist powers having a disagreement over imperialism

if the us would have let Russia run roughshod over Ukraine Griner would be home rn

This was probably not her 1st time but probably was her last time.

You say IF U.S. didn’t interfere with war then maybe Griner would be home well IF she was smart she would not be behind bars. Play UK over this weekend

Penal Colony….

Some prisoners are tortured, or beaten by fellow inmates. Some have to work 16-hour days. A few are forced to watch Russian propaganda on repeat.

This is the world of the Russian penal colony, into which Brittney Griner is about to be inducted for a nine-year term.

Penal colonies are the descendants of gulags, the notorious Stalin-era labor camps where millions of Russians lost their lives. The treatment of prisoners has improved markedly since then, according to rights groups. Griner’s lawyers said Tuesday that it could be “up to a few months” before she is transferred from the detention center where she has been held since being arrested in February on suspicion of drug smuggling.

But the penal colonies, many of them scattered across Siberia as gulags were and laid out in barracks, are still characterized by brutality, overcrowding and harsh conditions, and they are often governed by a rigid prison culture.

In an interview from a penal colony last year, Russia’s most famous prisoner, opposition leader Alexei Navalny, described a schedule of calisthenics, sweeping the yard and games of chess or backgammon, as well as five daily sessions of screen time where inmates are forced to watch state television and propaganda films.

“You need to imagine something like a Chinese labor camp, where everybody marches in a line and where video cameras are hung everywhere,” he said. “There is constant control and a culture of snitching.”

June, Navalny was transferred to a maximum-security prison, where he said he spends seven-hour shifts at a sewing machine.

In 2012, a member of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot said that there was no hot water, warm clothes or medicine in the penal colony where she and a bandmate were imprisoned, and that people who got sick could die as a result.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia said in 2010 that “The Gulag Archipelago,” Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s indictment of the Soviet penal system, should be essential reading for Russian students.

During her detention so far, Griner’s reading material has reportedly been books by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a Russian writer whose work was marked by his harrowing experiences in the country’s penal system, after he was sentenced to four years’ hard labor in Siberia. Dostoyevsky once wrote: “The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.”

How is the US an imperialist?

Murder in broad daylight? Do you mean in the US cities?

There are plenty of Americans being held in prisons of countries around the world. Griner is just another. Thats all she is to Russia where apparently they have equal treatment under the law. They don't care about her special status gayness, special status color, or special status celebrity. The same way it should be in this country.

She will be released just as soon as the US cuts off all military and financial aid to Ukraine. Russia is not making a prisoner swap. It is not in Putin's interest to give up what little leverage he has against the US. This conflict isn't ending anytime soon so she is going to be incarcerated for a long, long time.

And it's time that stops

Helping is one thing, but it's to the point of too much
If we don’t stop Russia at Ukraine it will be Estonia Latvia next and this will keep going just like if we had stopped them in Chechnya or Georgia they wouldn’t be in Ukraine right now, none of this would matter if Russia wasn’t an overly aggressive imperialist kleptocracy who doesn’t obey or respect international law

Most Americans don't care about Grinder , Russia , and don't like sending all of our money to Ukraine. We have bigger problems to solve here

Russia can be an immense problem for us…. Say you don’t understand US foreign politics without saying you don’t understand US foreign politics

If they waltz into Ukraine our gas would be double eventually and Western Europe would be at their mercy

man’s we didn’t even talk about trade routes and the strengthening of military ties between them Iran and China
