Without Any US Players, Which Online Books Would Survive?

A lot would if the US players really didn't exist anymore, but they aren't books this crowd plays with. What is the point of a lobby though, the books figure the status quo isn't far from where we are today with most people gambling whether someone says it is legal or not.

Maybe WildBill. First they can't imagine it being clamped down on to any extent that players would stop. But--you never know. On the other hand--if they ran WIDE OPEN---Oh Well.

OMT,

As I like to say, be careful what you wish for is a good theme for this industry. If they could operate very openly, then the current books would have new competition that would put most of them out. As for clamping down heavily, how could that possibly work? For every road block put up, ways have been found around them. Maybe if they sent people to jail for it, but they can't even come up with an agreement to make it illegal to bet. It just won't pass because for all the bluster out there by a handful of politicians this isn't a serious problem like they make it out to be. When maybe 2% of the population is doing this at most, how can it be a grave issue?

Wild bill I disagree I think A LOT of books would go out....there MAIN clients are US based I saw a post where the clear majority of players where from the US for EVERY book...

I think A LOT go out if it gets very strict and they pass the kyle bill with penalites

One of the BIGGEST hassles now is paying and getting paid. If no Neteller--I would never use Western Union! Who needs that?

Dante,

Kyl bill will not make it criminal to bet, there will be no penalties for average Joes. It attempts to block funding and makes it illegal to run an operation. Basically it takes de-facto laws and just makes it seem like he is doing something. The Wire Act suspiciously would match about half of it. The other half would mostly be coding the fact that banks and credit cards try to avoid the business. He does have some ridiculous stuff like trying to coerce ISPs to block sites, something that will never hold muster in a court. I mean think about this, there are true criminal penalties for even intentionally looking at child porn yet they can't stop it. You are going to tell me an activity which isn't even illegal is going to be stopped by this waste of time? The more you read this bill and the efforts, the more you realize these Congress people are just plain idiots trying to do things for the sake of saying they are doing things. Ineffectual is the word that comes to my mind when I think of this legislation.

Don't worry people, the sky is not falling. This seeming slam dunk of a bill can't even pass because there just isn't enough support or reason to pass it. Maybe in 5 years something might pass, but it will be about the most defanged issue bill you saw. I think I very accurately describe the gist of this with "hey you guys offshore, you are bad people and you take money from us government folks. And you don't give us any of it. We don't like you so we ask you to stop doing it or else we are going to call you bad people to a judge" That is what it is, hoping that somehow good faith bookies are going to stop doing what they are doing and stop taking checks, wires, or credit transactions because they are told not to.

My concern is that The DOJ will be able and order my ISP to block gaming sites.

Wildbill, how the hell are you a gambling writer for this site?

Most of what you publish is complete non-sense, whether the article deals with land based or online gaming. I suggest you stick to writing about your voyages with shrink, or your wife's favorite thanksgiving recipe.

Most books would indeed go under, if ALL U.S players stopped playing online.

I understand you have a vested interest in the future of online gambling, but do not spout out lies, giving people a false sense of security.

I'd say all the CR books would go under, except for 2 or 3, speaking english is what gets their employees their ( relatively) decent jobs. The clientelle has to be heavily American. The European books wouldn't be hurt as badly, some would go under. Many Euro books don't accept Americans, they would probably benefit. Pinnacle and Olympic would survive. Locals would love it !

Man I take all kinds of shots. Read what I write in the post. I think it went something like this:

"they aren't books this crowd plays with"

The big money is not going to be made just from Americans going forward. Yeah to us it looks like a disaster to the people on this site, but it won't be long until half of the action is Asian and it will only get bigger from there. Ask anyone around CR and they will tell you their business models are increasingly just keeping level with the American business and pushing all the growth to every other country. If books are doing that and moving into exposure elsewhere by buying up other books or creating different names and interfaces, these books will survive without Americans. Trust me on this one. The sports other nationalities love to play are generally higher vig for the house and the people that play generally are willing to risk far more of their disposable income and savings into gambling.

there is a lot of truth to bills last post. the most/majority of compulsive gamblers I have met are always foriegeners. the typical american wont pawn their TV or risk not having enough to pay their phone bill, but these foriegeners sure will. arabics, asians etc

WildBill gave an extremely classy tribute to Andy Glazer in his latest article. I disagree with a lot of what he says, a lot of the time, but that article showed how classy he is.

LOL, very true. You could get an average Japanese guy to bet you on two raindrops rolling down a windowpane.

I guess IF there is a positive note to this is that NO Offshore place has been tied in any way whatsoever to any terrorist. You can be fairly sure the US government knows and checks on the ones that are visible.

I mean present US sites (such as E-Ponies and Daily Racing Form) advertise many of these places on their webpages now.
Just hope this continues to be the case!!

WIldbill , yes I know that but if there is even "pressure" put on for people to stop by having the KYLE bill pass and it get a lot of press, like with the advertising thing awhile back. I think the "average joe" for the most part will be a little more leery to keep wagering offshore. Also, in my opinion, newbees will be discouraged whether they are the recreational gambler like me or the hard core sharpees...
