Are we gonna see any "major" trades?

Lots of speculation has bandied about, including

Randy Johnson to the Yankees, Red Sox, or others...

Garciaparra to the Cubs....

Kris Benson to the Mets, Twins, or Phillies...

and tons of other rumors, however usually by this time we have seen more trades than we have this year...

Is it gonna be a dead year for trades? are teams like the D'Backs asking too much for a 40 yr old pitcher?

Will be curious to see, as the deadline is this Saturday....

any predictions?

according to sportsline, some other rumors are...

Derrick Lowe to the Padres, for Brain Lawrence, Jay Payton...

Padres are also interested in Steve Finley, who has said he will only go to a west coast team...(didnt Finley come from the Padres?)

Since the Randy Johnson 3-way trade with boston and Cubs is off due to Randy's preferences, hinnts about a Cubs/Bosox Garciaparra trade for Matt Clement....not sure i like that one

also rumors about Larry Walker going to a contender...

All this talk, but yet nothing has really happened.....could be an interesting next 48 hours....

I would love to see the Red Sox acquire Larry Walker in a bargain deal.

Looks like Dodgers are about ready to get Steve Finley. Details are fuzzy, but Jeff Conine, Brad Penny of Florida look to be involved also, someone is gonna get Paul LaDuca....

I think the Cubs will get Cabrera from Montreal instead. Just need to agree on the prospect.

With Giambi out indefinitely I wouldn't put it past the free spending Yanks to trade for a another power hitter like Carlos Delgado, especially since the Jays need to unload salary and Delgado's making something like 19 Million.

I dont want my Braves to get anyone, this team is coming together just fine.. Looks like Bobby and Leo one more time to win the division.. Thank You Philly for keeping Bowa this season. There is a chance we get good play down the stretch from Chipper and Hampton, this could be the 2 guys that we need and we already have them...

The Dodgers just picked up catcher Charles Johnson from Colorado, which frees up Paul Lo Duca for a deal with Arizona for The Unit. Look for it to be announced later tonight because Randy is pitching today. The Marlins may be involved in the deal making it a 3 way blockbuster.

I'm not sure how the 6 player deal between Florida and LA affects Johnson.

The first phase in a scenario that might see Johnson sent to Los Angeles was completed Friday afternoon, ESPN's Peter Gammons reports.
The Florida Marlins traded pitcher Brad Penny, Hee Seop Choi and highly regarded Double-A pitcher Bill Murphy to the Dodgers for relief pitcher Guillermo Mota, catcher Paul Lo Duca and outfielder Juan Encarnacion.
If the Big Unit says yes to a trade to the Dodgers -- the D-Backs approached Johnson on Thursday again about accepting a possible deal to the Dodgers said he would sleep on it, Gammons reported -- it would set in motion another trades that would also include outfielder Steve Finley being dealt.
The Dodgers could also acquire Steve Finley in a three-team deal even if they don't get Johnson.

Another reported done deal:

ATLANTA — The Mets pulled the trigger on two trades this afternoon, obtaining Tampa Bay pitcher Victor Zambrano and Pittsburgh pitcher Kris Benson, the Daily News has learned.

The cost was high. The Mets shipped top pitching prospect Scott Kazmir and Double-A pitcher Jose Diaz to Tampa Bay for Zambrano and Triple-A pitcher Bartolome Fortunato.

They traded Ty Wigginton and pitching prospect Matt Peterson to Pittsburgh and catching prospect Justin Huber to Kansas City in a three-way deal. The Mets will also receive Jeff Keppinger.

Zambrano or Benson is expected to start Saturday against the Braves at Turner Field.

NY Daily News report.

Delgado has pissed of the entire city of New York with his anti-war antics at Yankee Stadium (no matter how well placed the sentiment is)

Charles Johnson making 9 million...now that is sad...

BTW The 9 Million Dollar man still must agree to go to L.A. , he has veto power.

looks like one single trade can open the floodgates, but it seemed to take longer this year...
