Atop the NHL standings.

All those pretenders playing poker this afternoon trying to get on top of the perch. Cups aren't won on trade day.

You guys look tired in my rear view mirror!

Alexander who?

you still have to look at the games in hand.....SJ has played 3 LESS games...but I dont think that even matters....until the Sharks prove not to be chokers, I dont think home ice means much for the Wings...they can win at home or on the road....still the favs in my book to win it all.....

As long as Thornton is in SJ, that team will never win anything. And Calgary's still not ready for prime time even with what they did today. The team that concerns me in the West is Vancouver with their goaltender. He's capable of winning a series or 2 all by himself and that team is strong enough with their top 9 forwards and 6 dman to go very far. We'll deal with NJ when we get there.

I've got 2 grand coming to me if the Wings nab the President's trophy. I really didn't think it would be such a close race but I guess it makes my bet more exciting to root for. Go WINGS! :toast:

How many have they won in San Jose this year?

Sounds like the same amount that they've won in Dallas, Columbus, Atlanta and the NY Islanders. Zero.

Your comparing apples and hand grenades.

The playoffs are a whole different beast.

They might.

But based on what?

NJ hasn't won a second round playoff game since the 02-03 season.

The Wings would be heavy favorites going in if they both got there.

Trust me, it doesnt matter.....the Wings clinched EVERY series last year on the road....they thrive on the road.......Im not saying they are going to win the Stanley Cup again......Im just saying the reason wont be because they dont have home ice......this team is too good....they can win at home or on the road.....we shall see though.....

...they thrive on the road.......

Where did you pull this opinion from? The fact is, they are 19-15 on the road.

Of those 34 games they have managed to win just 7 against teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. They beat Nashville, Calgary, Edmonton, Florida, Vancouver, and Chicago twice.

The other 12 wins are all against teams currently sitting out of the playoffs.

Lets be real here. The West has 4 teams that I think can all legitimately make the Cup. Sharks, Wings, Flames, and Nucks and thats it! The Eastern Conference from 1-8 anyone can make the Cup there is not one dominant team. Dont tell me for one second you can confidently say:

Bruins - Played way over their heads all season reality setting in and Tim Thomas has never won a playoff series in his life.

Devils - Sure they have great defense and Broduer but who is gonna score?

Caps - Ovechkin and thats it. Terrible defense and Theodore and that youth in the Cup?

Flyers - That weak defense and horrible goaltending?

Habs - Questionable goaltending. Offensive skill but give up way too many shots and scoring chances against. Defense a little too suspect.

Rangers - Just like the Devils but with weaker defense, weaker goaltending and weaker offense

Pens - Malkin amd Crosby and thats all. How much impact is Guerin actually gonna have? Fleury too inconsistent and very weak team defense.

Panthers, Canes, Sabres - no chance at the FINALS

With that being said its gonna be SJ, DET, VAN, or CGY against ANYONE in the East and I mean ANYONE

Also I guess I could give the Panthers an outside shot considering how wide open the East is. Their defense and goaltending has been pretty solid all year however David Booth is about the only offensive threat that scares me.

 at opinion....its a FACT! Whats wrong with being above 500 on the road? Thats thriving...+ your mixing up regular season from post season.....check the Wings record over the years on the road in the post season....its pretty damn good...like I said, go back to last year....they are great in close out games on the road....your DONE! Again, not opinion...just a FACT!

Your right....the east is wide open....anyone 1-8 can win it....but it can happen in the west too.....the thing about hockey playoffs, your one hot goalie away from carrying you a long way in April and May.....I think it was two years ago....seeds 5-8 all won in the east in the first round

No one is doubting the fact that the Wings "should" be back in the Cup thats why I thought it would be better fit to talk Stanley Cup teams this year in a more "lets be real" sense as I mentioned above. Its between DET, SJ, VAN, and CGY in the West and thats is ALL! As for the East 1-8 there is nobody that should be even close to a prohibitive favorite in my opinion

Yes very true however in the West I really dont think any other teams besides DET, SJ, VAN or CGY will make the Cup regardless of hot goalie or not. I do remember that year when the 5-8 seeds all won that was very odd it had never happened before

I think Edmonton is much more than just a live dog against either Detroit or San Jose.

I have a really hard time believing both of those top seeded teams make the conference finals...
