Windows 10 - Lost All Data

Wondering if anyone can offer some thoughts from their experience.

I have had Windows 10 in my laptop ever since it came out.

I have also kept a folder on my desktop entitled 'my name' with work documents, pictures, videos, hell - betting angles, you name it but was told that a desktop folder was very safe and very recoverable if anything ever happened.

My laptop (on it's own) either downloaded Windows 10 again or downloaded an update.

The system kept telling me that I was signing in under a temporary ID. Couldn't access anything.

Even doing a search on 'my PC' yields nothing.

Everything is gone no matter what 'ID' I sign in under.

This happen to anyone else? HELP!

You may have already tried this but the first thing I would do is system restore to an earlier point.

Is your computer set up with users? (that temporary ID is one)

If you weren't the Admin, then you were the "your name" User.

Any other user can't see others' desktops, but the Admin can.

I think for the day that I had the system before I took it into the repair shop, that every time I logged in it created a new 'ID' for me.

Admin ID doesn't seem to be able to see or find anything either.

Could everything possibly be 'overwritten' somehow?

Losing data because of an update seems really bad. How can that be?

I have had viruses that caused less damage.

Has anyone had an success with any 'recovery programs'? And if so, what did you use?

Look under the users folder and see if the old username you logged in with is there. Sounds like you are logging in with a different profile.

An update won't delete files so they are there somewhere, you just have to find them. Search for the username you used previously as well
