We are the superior race because we can be, it's called mother nature. The big fish eats the little fish, birds of prey often eat lab rats before we can even experiment on them. Lions like to eat meat as well, and the deaths animals suffer while being eaten alive can't be good.
As the superior race, we use nature for our benefit. For nourishment, for shelter and perfect surgical procedures on them so our race can survive. I'm not a proponent of cruelty to animals, but I understand the laws of nature.
It is only if we are not just another animal -- if our nature is distinctly superior to other animals -- that we become subject to ethics at all -- and then those ethics must take into account our nature as masters of the lower animals. We may seek a balance of nature; but "balance" is a concept that only a species as intelligent as humankind could even contemplate. We may choose to temper the purposes to which we put lower animals with empathy and wisdom; but by virtue of our superior nature, we decide ... and if those decisions include the consumption of animals for human utilitarian or recreational purposes, then the limits on the uses we put the lower beasts are ones we set according to our individual human consciences.
If you don't want to eat meat, don't. If you would prefer that surgical procedures be performed on you or your love ones, so be it. Go trade places with a fucking lab rat.

There are three types of animal, herbivore, carnivore and omnivore. You seem to be under the impression that we are omnivores. Wrong. The human animal fits the structure of an herbivore more than any other category. Cut open a human then cut open a herbivore and you will see many similarities. Digestive tracks are very long in herbivores. The humans digestive track is 12X the length of our body, no omnivore has one this long. That is because meat must pass through your system quickly. Stomach acids in humans are just about 20X weaker than the acids in an omnivore. Humans have sophisticated sweat glands, not found in any omnivore or carnivore. Omnivores sweat through their tongues, not bodies. On top of all that meat kills us. Meat eaters do not have cholesterol issues or heart attacks from the contents of meat. Food is supposed to sustain life, not take it. So your reason that we are superior because we are meat eaters is gone.
Your second argument uses the phrase "as the superior race". You're using the question at hand to justify your response. If something has not yet been established it can't be used for justification.
Balance is something that nature takes care of. It is not a man made idea. It is the fact that when food is plenty a deer will have more young. It is when food is scarce an animal may kill their baby. Balance is something that we did not make up nor should we control. We are part of the balance yet we have tried to take it over. Disease is here to balance us out. Yet we try everyday to find ways to deny nature and fight disease.
You delve into intelligence of humans. Humans come in different intelligence levels. A retarded person is far less capable of caring for himself then a dog. One person may be smarter than another, does the order of people go by intelligence as well? And again as brought up with the size thing, is the dumbest person the bottom of how smart you have to be to become important? Who judges the smartest person? An IQ test? What if the person taking the IQ test is smarter than the person who made the IQ test? Does this now become irrelevant because a person of lesser intelligence can't judge a person smarter than them? If the line has to be drawn, where do we draw the line?
