Could pitch till he is 60 and rack up some impressive numbers. Think he is a favorite to make it.

I really think the way Wakefield throws he can pitch until at least 52. He will never have arm trouble the way he releases the ball.

House of Fun? If Wakefield makes the HOF, you might as well open up the gates and put everyone in....heck put Coco Crisp in next year...

If Wakefield makes it in the hall, he will actually be the only pitcher to be in there who's age as a ballplayer was a higher number than the speed of his pitch.

The closest right now has to be Phil Neikro who played till age 48 and threw about 65 mph, whereas Wakefield will play till he's 54 and throw about 51 mph..

Right now Wake has 116 wins and 101 loses in 11 years, at this pace he needs to pitch around 18 more years to reach 300. He will be 55. This could be one long thread.

So your saying that he doesnt even have to pitch until he is 60 to net 300 wins. COOL!

His 1.2 innings of scoreless ball today after starting just 2 days ago is a testiment to his HOF status. If somehow the Red Sox should win the World Series this year, shoot.... I would consider him a first ballot HOFer if he never threw another pitch after this season.

Wilbur Wood was just a kid when he retired. He was born in October of 1941 and retired with the White Sox in 1978 at the age of 37.

Hoyt Wilhelm was born in July of 1923 and retired with the Dodgers in 1972 almost 50 years old.

Look At Jessie Orosco, That guy is 46-47 years old plans to pitch from what I hear til' he is 50 then retire. Nolan Ryan never threw the knuckleball but lasted til' he was 45 years old I think til' he decided to retired.

Wil, you seem to be expert on the players ages, Just curious how old was Knuckleball Pitcher Charlie Hough when he retired, Wasn't he something like 48 years old when he retired?

How old was Phil Niekro(the greatest KN-baller of them all. Didn't he win 300? Is he in the Hall?

I remember Wakefeld was on a roll in the postseason when he was on Pittsburgh, his postseason era is close to 0.00, I would much rather have Wake then Maddux in October. Maddux past Glavine as the all time pplayoff loser this year with 16 playoff loses.
