Will Randy Moss Be MORE Or LESS Effective in Oakland?

Very tough to say, but without Culpepper chunking those balls downfield up for grabs, one would think he will be LESS effective with the Raiders. However, it is now known that as time went on ,Dante & Randy's relationship diminished, leading us to consider a theory in which Culpepper didn't look for him as often, therefore taking some of Moss' success away. I personally don't think we will ever see Randy Moss numbers of old again............

Moss probably will go off, but the team will do worse. They gave up their best starting linebacker to get him, plus a high draft picked that almost certainly would have gone to upgrade the D. Add in the fact that Charles Woodson is a sure goner now that he has put them almost $20 mil over the cap means they will be playing from behind or in big-time shootouts all year. Unless you think Warren Sapp and Ted Washington are going to be reborn somehow this year.

When you are 31st in points allowed and you decide the way to fix that is to trade away your two best young players on defense you are either a lunatic...or Al Davis.

FWIW the Raiders named Charles Woodsen their franchise player on the 22nd. And Re signed Jerry Porter for 5 years. Of course that don't mean they won't trade Woodsen for the right deal but they only have until March 2nd. IMO the real key is if Raiders head coach the now much traveled Norv Turner will ever live up to his potential as a top NFL head coach. Face it the Raiders (even Gruden) have had some lame head coaches over the last 10 years. Of course the aquisition of Sapp and to a lessor degree Washington were big mistakes. Their other large obstacle is the AFC West: take your pick, Denver, San Diego, Kansas City or Oakland. Tuff division to say the least.

Wil,

They are $11 mil over the cap and have to get it fixed by Wednesday. That means one thing, they have to dump off Woodson and ship him to some place where he likely has agreed in terms for a long-term deal. The Raiders weren't expecting Woodson to sign the offer sheet, he has f-ed them over doing it and guaranteed himself at least $10.5 million. Sapp and Washington are almost sure to be dumped to get under the cap after the Woodson trade leaving the Raiders D the second coming of the Chiefs.

Even worse for the Raiders they will get creamed on the cap next year because they are so far over right now they had to get Gannon to take a minimum salary this year and then they cut him into retirement, so the cap hit comes next year, about $7.4 million. The Raiders are in a world of trouble, no question about it. Next year they will have maybe $85 mil in cap to spend and about $30 mil will go to two receivers, a retired QB, and quite likely two defensive linemen no longer with the team.

He might end up with more catches simply because the Raiders may be in a lot of shoot-out type games, have little run game(at least before the draft), or might be behind by several scores. I don't think the team will be as successful as the Vikes though.
