I am here to say yes for no other reason than "ever" is a long time. You will see it in the next 25 years. If 2's can lose a bunch of times a 1 will slip up eventually. And I will hate to be that coach when it does happen.

historically Big South has been in a play-in game. That's what I'm basing it on. They certainly deserve a higher seeding, whether they get it, we'll see.

Look at this year. Based on Sagarin's ratings and Sporting News brackets, these are the 1-16 matchups with the predicted differential

Illinois -23 over Portland St.
Kentucky -17 over UT Chattanooga
UNC -37 over Alabama A&M
Wake -23 over Coppin St.

What are the odds of an upset based on those? The difference between a 14 or 15 team and a 16 can be big. Add in the fact that most #1 seeds get to play fairly close to home and this upset is just hard to see.

I won't dispute you.
But like I said, let a Winthrop or someone similar slip through the cracks, and it will happen.

SOS on that team is up near the 300 range, meaning they had about the easiest schedule of any tournament team. It won't matter, most sources say Winthrop is a 13 or 14 seed, which means no chance they fall to 16.

I would say in the next 20 years, the chances of a 16 winning are maybe 10-15% at best. It just won't happen barring some major changes in the game such as an NBA minor league that picks up most of the top talent out of HS. Short of that, it just isn't likely to happen.

There have been some one point games. I remember Oklahoma back in the late 80's got a scare. Wasn't Georgetown/Princeton a 1/16 game? Might have been others. There have been a few close games.
