LOL. I am really curious about this, anyone have any guesses? Even when I was angry at the sites and bashed the places I visited I always admitted I enjoyed the sites. I usually was upset with a decision and complained about it. My point is I always wanted to stay. I liked the contests, I like keeping updated on the books, I liked the other posters and so on. I hear all over the internet posters visiting sites saying how miserable it made them to be there. Why are you at that site to begin with then? Even here I can write the first few sentences of some of these guys posts about how much they hate the place, have no respect for employees, hate the other squares here etc.... Bottom line if someone does not like a site GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!! LOL. I don't know how hard that is to understand. We love to have as many as we can here but I am finding out some posters take great pride in being unhappy and making everyone else unhappy. Usually it is less than a handful that will create more problems than the rest combined. I guess like most I want to "save" everyone but the reality is not everyone will be happy here, is it fair to let them make the rest of us miserable? Here are the reasons I think most stay at a place they swear they hate to be at:

- Agenda. Could be a lot of things. You may work for another site and it is in your best interest to bash the one you are at. You may be doing it to win favor by the owner of another site. The old I know what you want to hear so I will go over and say it if you will like me trick, LOL. Heck you may be getting paid to bash the place. Could be a million reasons but mostly you are trying to make the site look bad for one reason or another....

- Rebellion. I think a lot fall under this one. As kids we are taught it is cool to challenge authority. No one would watch Beaver these days but Bart Simpson was cool as hell. To this crowd the common theme is they have no real issue other than to be against everyone else. "Everyone look at me I am raising hell over here". Usually this comes from younger posters. Most will say "I can't stand this place" at least once or twice a day, what gives them away is the constant need to remind us how bad the place is. Yet they still come everyday to tell us how much they dislike it.....

- Attention. Whether they did not get enough at home as a kid or they don't get enough now they will do or say anything to be the center of attention. Anything. You don't stand out being a team player and respecting others. The more outrageous and ridiculous you are the more attention you will gather. Some noteworthy examples of this sort of poster come to mind real quickly.

Solution? I don't know but if you do not like the places you spend your time I would suggest finding a place you enjoy more. Not talking here, anywhere. You can keep in touch with your friends by e-mails, letter, phone calls or whatever. You are not doing yourself or anyone else a favor by visiting places that make you miserable. Now by the same token if there are things bothering you let them know!! Nothing wrong with that. Hell no one believes in speaking up more than I do if you have an issue you want addressed. But when you catch yourself day after day having to remind us how much you hate it here than it is counterproductive to be here. Life's too short to be miserable.....

Anyone else notice this? As it pertains here I have not really talked about it with the mods or Ken but I think we are too lenient at times. You are doing that poster a favor if you ban them and they don't want to be here. Not if they have a beef but if they really and truly would rather not be here why ruin it for the other 98% of the people? Why unban people after a week? If we banned them there must have been a good reason for it. Just thinking outloud but the extreme cases are probably not being dealt with quickly enough IMO. Might be something to look at so would like your opinions.

BTW again what made me post this happened on a writing board I like to look in on. Two or three of the posters there create 99% of the havoc. Sometimes it is easier to see when you are an outside party so thought I would post this here for other opinions. Thanks in advance if anyone has any input into this.

Pat,

I think even the posters that "say" they hate it here and post do not hate it here at all. They post because the like the RX. I think even when posters post in stupid threads and say what a dumb thread they still posted in the thread because they WANTED to. Some of it is a game for attention. But I think the majority post here because they like this site.

If A poster posts something they are showing they took the time to think of our site whether they post something bad or good. they still thought to POST it here. If they really hated the site they would not post at all. IMO

Pat,
I don't understand your post. Why would it beneficial to the site for anyone to leave??

Even if I hated this place more than I do, I would still use the site.
When you don't like how something is being done you speak up, and try to improve things. Lead by example.
Taking your ball and going home does nothing for anyone, and imo isn't even a real solution...

Great post Cecil. I don't read paragraphs of bs so I am not sure of all that Pat said,, but my reasons are take the good out of each site. Even though only 5% of this site is valuable info, that is still important and it has important info about books. The few good cappers and the decent info on books is invaluable. And it is like summer camp when you are a kid and hated everything but the friends you made. I have a lot of friends on this site who only post on this site so until guys like don marco, dickyw, sea urchin, docdekay etc. leave, you guys are stuck with me until you ban me. The point is take the best out of each site. The second reason is the I keep coming back to this site is I find dumb humor super entertaining. I love movies like Dumb and Dumber and this site has useless, predictable posts that are absolutely hilarious and crack me up still. If you are in the right mood, guys like beantownjim, railscum, and jjgold are hilarious. Hypocrisy is funny to me too - I must be strange. Seeing guys drooling like mutts over an Internet posting name like Angelle cracks me up. This site cracks me up as much as Seinfeld. Some of the sites I browse or post on are very dull, but provide great info. Does that mean I stop going there because they provide no entertainment and are boring as hell? You forgot the other reason people post too. If they kiss the Shrink's ass enough, maybe they think they can be mods or be admitted into the boardroom or maybe even get Billy Walters plays. Last reason for me is I think I am addicted to this site.

Mr. Kennedy

Even if you don't have ADD you have plenty of time to get it while reading a McIrishism. LOL

VVV

p.s. Patrick, if your paragraphs were shorter your posts would be easier to read. Just a suggestion from a non-English major.

Cecil - actually it was another site that I was referring to specifically. It's not as big as this so just a couple of posters have a bigger impact. Over there two or three posters swear they hate the place yet come to post day after day after day. Something makes me want to try and figure out what a person is thinking I suppose. It wasn't directed to anyone here though some may have seen themselves in the examples. LOL. These types are common anywhere you go on the internet, not exclusive to any one site. If you had a site that gave away a million dollars each time you logged on someone would complain about it not being paid out in 20's.

Yes I do believe if a person hates where they are they shouldn't be there but that's Patrick the poster speaking, not Patrick the employee. Doesn't help me out or the site if anyone ever leaves but hopefully helps them out if they stay away from things that make them miserable. Do things you get enjoyment out of, life's too short to do things that make you unhappy.

I can't think of one regular poster that hates this site. Anyone that has been around a little while knows that mods come and go and posters come and go. I guess if an ole boy hated the Shrink he should pack his bags, that's one guy who doesn't seem to be leaving anytime soon.

Unless you're a true rx shoe shine suckazz, I think a poster is probably going to have a difference of opinion with the site once in a while.

Of course I think I remember the Shrink suggesting to Pat that he did not appreciate some of his comments in the pre-employement era. That stuff happens. I think the "hate" word is over rated or else maybe I just don't notice. But I think you're talking about the banned4life types. But even so, he was banned for i guess hateful actions...

Pat good post. I was looking at it at a different, more negative angle as usual.

Buzz, I agree. I have hardly ever had a problem with the staff here. Even if I did, the fact that turnover is pretty high, there is not really any point in leaving unless you really hate the shrink...
