"Apart from two plants in Dimona, Israel established a number of other nuclear plants in Nahal Suryak, south of Tel Aviv in 1958 and in Raishon Liston and Haifa."

CAIRO -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has spelled out clearly his reasons for accepting the Middle East road map with 14 reservations. During the Aqaba summit on June 6, he said: 'Permanent peace requires permanent security. This permanent security will bring about permanent peace to Israel.' To accept peace on Sharonís terms would make the proposed Palestinian state a mockery in the service of Israelís security.

The most dangerous thing is that Israel is allowed to possess all kinds of weapons of mass destruction while Arab countries are denied these weapons under the pretext that Israel is under threat.

Israel has said that it is not yet time to look at its nuclear arsenal and weapons of mass destruction because it has not yet attained permanent security and peace.

As a result, Israel has become a depot for nuclear, chemical and biological weapons threatening the security of Arab, Asian and European countries. Does Israel require this large arsenal of banned weapons? The French constructed the Dimona nuclear reactor and produced enriched uranium. Israel was ready to produce its first nuclear bomb as early as 1965.

In March 1969, Moshe Dayan celebrated the birth of the Israeli nuclear state and the Israeli nuclear scientist Vannunu has acknowledged that his country was in 6th position in the nuclear club in the 1980s. According to one estimate, Israel possesses at least 100 nuclear bombs.

Apart from two plants in Dimona, Israel established a number of other nuclear plants in Nahal Suryak, south of Tel Aviv in 1958 and in Raishon Liston and Haifa. In 1994, US President Bill Clinton approved nine supercomputers to meet the needs of Israelís nuclear program. Informed sources have estimated that Israel has 100 to 200 nuclear warheads, but another report put the figure at more than 500.

Quoting Vannunu, American journalist Seymour Hersh says in his book that Israel possesses about 300 nuclear warheads. He also says that he has got information indicating Israel possesses hundreds of nitrogen bombs. Reports have confirmed that Israel has various types of nuclear weapons including nuclear bombs which could be dropped from planes, missile warheads, in addition to 25 hydrogen bombs.

Israel also holds an unspecified numbers of tactical weapons.

At least three international sources have confirmed that Israel had not only produced nuclear mines but spread them in various regions at different periods of the Arab-Israeli conflict, especially in Golan and Naqab during the military confrontation with Egypt in October 1973 and in January 1991.

The question is: Who can ask the international community to disarm Israel of its mass destructive weapons?

I don't think anybody having nukes is good, but the reason nobdy says anything about Israel (aside from what gbm said) is that the Israelis aren't trying to blow things up (outside the Palestinate that is).

If the international community demanded Israel de-nuke, I believe Israel would knuckle under. However, the free and civilized world knows full well that Israel will never be the first to introduce those weapons. No intelligent and informed person would ever make that claim with regard to an Arab state.

>>>Israel has said that it is not yet time to look at its nuclear arsenal and weapons of mass destruction because it has not yet attained permanent security and peace.<<<

I think that statement sums up Israel’s positions accurately. And obviously the international [civilized] community agrees, as there has never been any coordinated effort to from them to ask/demand Israel disarm.

The best way to treat the Arabs, historically, has been to regard them as treacherous… and incapable of either civilized thought or behavior. Any movement away from that treatment [by civilized people] will see disastrous consequences.

which is ok i guess, heh?

I hate to spill the beans here for ya but yaser arafat is ten fold more capable of "civilized thought or behavior" than your cowboy at the whitehouse dubya. Unless you count spitting a gum in your hand before signing an international treaty as civilised behaviour and talking about "hitting the trifecta" after 9-11 or "talking about border relations between canada and mexico" as civilized thought.

I would argue that Israel needs a nuclear derterrent more than pretty much any other county on Earth...even the U.S.

Think what you want about the Israeli/Palestine situation (nothing to do with it) but no other country has the daily threat to its existence coming from all sides like Israel does.

Is this trivia? OK, I'll give it a shot.

Because they don't use them on their citizens and others.

neither did saddam, oh wait, they haven't even found the weapons yet:

I am absolutely convinced with time we'll find out that they did have a weapons program.
-- Wait a second... I thought we went to war because we already knew for certain that Iraq had thousands of tons of stockpiled chemical weapons, and an active, ongoing weapons program operated in violation of UN sanctions. Now it sounds like Dubya was acting on a hunch, Dubya, Washington, D.C., Jun. 9, 2003.

Oh, wait again, the only time sadam used such weapons was during the Iran war, and wait again, those very weapons were handed to him by the u.s.

Ain't life funny...

btw.....saddam did use chemical weapons on his own people.....remember?.....

and he`s the one that said,"one of my biggest regrets was not having nuclear weapons when we went into kuwait"....probably would have been a nuke or 2 thudding into israel instead of a few harmless scuds(and israel did not retaliate) during the gulf war.. .....if they were nukes, voila, israel retaliates and a goodly portion of the middle east is a parking lot and there`s the potential for ww3 or at least a large portion of the world`s oil supply is maybe compromised and the area is contaminated........and that didn`t happen because the israelis had the forethought to take out his french provided nuclear reactor before it was completed....

most clear thinking people on every side of the debate are very glad saddam`s gone...

The facts mean zero to some of these people. At times you'd think they're blind or they just don't want to see what's right in front of them.

As soon as we discuss them i will. I cant see how it's relative in the issues we are discussing here. Besides, that further validates my point, that plenty more countries in the world have much more weapons of mass destruction, some of which countries like russia these days are in an equally unstable sociopolitical condition (i.e. former usssr) and no one from the u.s. leadership gives a rats ass, because these countries are serving u.s. interests just fine.

yeah, first of all who sold them these weapons? That's rhetorical question, we all know the answer. Don't tell me that iraqi "scientists" are capable of researching and producing them. Moreover the deaths from disease/famine/unhygienic water etc. etc. due to the past 12 year's trade embargo implemented by the u.s. have killed tens of thousands more in iraq...

As well as killing them with proper chemical weapons as the u.s. bully did in afganistan trying to overturn a regime that they themselves had installed and were funding, in search of a terrorist organisation who's head (bin laden) they had been funding too for decades.

Ain't life funny.

The crux of the matter is that this frankensteinian imperialist foreign policy of the few and for the few (not the people of the u.s. obviously) has and will only be breeding more frankestenian monsters like saddam or bin laden.

why aren`t the iraqi scientists capable....a bit of a racist statement.....you haven`t heard of dr huda amash(ms anthrax)?

but, regardless, why should they bother manufacturing anything....like the france`s,russia`s and the n korea`s give a damn about embargos.....n korea shuffling off missiles to yemen on unmarked ships....russia sending advisers to iraq right up to the start of the iraqi war...france supplying an unstable regime with the technology to build a nuclear reactor......let`s be fair....the u.s. is not alone in the blame game...

this is an international issue....and many don`t seem interested in doing anything...once again leaving the u.s. to do the dirty work while the france`s(once again sitting on their hands with their heads buried in the sand) and russia`s play their stupid games.....

blame the u.s.......a broken record....until they need us...
