Quarterback Jay Cutler only has a right thumb sprain and will not require surgery at this point, coach John Fox said. He is considered day to day.

The Bengals lost their Week 2 battle with the Steelers, but the season-long war is just getting started.

According to Local 12 reporter Richard Skinner, Andy Dalton was seen hobbling around the locker room following the team’s 24-16 loss to the Steelers.

Dalton originally injured the ankle late in the third quarter on a pass play, where he was hit hard and taken down by Cameron Heyward as he let the ball go in the red zone. It was the controversial no-catch by C.J. Uzomah, which appeared to be a touchdown based on Uzomah’s knee being down in bounds, but was ruled out and not challenged by the Bengals.

After that second-down play, Dalton was limping on the field before throwing a terrible pass on the ensuing play that was nearly picked off by Ross Cockrell before Cincinnati settled for a field goal.

Dalton would remain in the game and appeared to be fine as he nearly guided the Bengals to a comeback, but it fell short due to the Tyler Boyd fumble controversy.

Dalton finished with 366 yards on a career-high 54 passing attempts, but completed just 31 passes with one score as the Bengals offense failed to ever find any rhythm.

If Dalton were to miss next week’s matchup with the Broncos, AJ McCarron is the next man up. He may not be as good as Dalton, but he showed last year that he’s good enough to keep the Bengals afloat, even against elite competition.

We will keep you posted as more details regarding Dalton’s status become available. The Bengals’ next practice, in preparation for the Broncos, is on Wednesday.

still scratching my head on that... so clear it was a TD....Knee was clearly IN... could have turned the game around for the bungles...

NFL manipulates outcomes. Sooner you realize, sooner you'll be at peace with crap like that.
