Balancing factors;
-Minny prob won't get in playoffs (contending late, good enough), Boston is.
-Boston has a good lineup while Morneau has guys like Delmon Young and Buscher hitting behind him all year.
RBI's and other counting stats (in this case, runs) should carry about a tenth of the weight they do when it comes to award voting because they rely so heavily on who hits in front of and behind the hitter. They aren't a great barometer of player performance-there are probably 15 other statistics that are much better indicators of a players worth than those, but they're all you ever hear about. By and large, sportswriters are real dumbasses. Don't get me started on fucking Jimmy Rollins as MVP last year... Mauer is probably more valuable than all of them, but won't get a sniff of the award. Where your team finishes in the standings should have very little to do with it as well.
As for the original question, Youkilis plays a position where production like that is pretty common, Pedroia doesn't and plays a much more difficult position defensively. The merits of this arguement are not exactly concrete, but that's the reason.
Not that post-season counts for awards, but Youk was clearly the MVP of this team. If Pedroia wasn't 5'2" he wouldn't be getting so much love. He is gonna win the award but shouldnt
BOYS I CANT SPEAK FOR ALL OF BOSTON BUT I CAN SPEAK FOR SOUTH BOSTON THE REASON WHY YOUKOLIS DOESNT GET THE LOVE IS BECAUSE HE IS A JEW.ITS HARD TO ROOT FOR JEWISH BALLPLAYES ESPECIALLY YOUKOLIS JESUS F-CKING CHRIST ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASSION I WANTED TO GO TO FENWAY AND WAIT OUTSIDE OF THE CLUB HOUSE AND SUCKER PUNCH YOUK.HE IS THE MOST HATED PLAYER WHEN HE IS AT BAT I HATE HIS STANCE NO WONDER WHY PITCHERS KEEP THROWING AT HIM.
