Why is Jim Leyland so stupid?

After a leadoff double, he has Infante swinging away, rather than bunting the runner over to 3rd, with a tie game in the 7th. Obviously, he strikes out.

I never understood how these managers can be so dumb????

Well, he's off the hook a little b/c the Tigers still scored this inning. But this still doesn't excuse his lack of managerial skills.

your view of jim leyland with a "lack of managerial skills" is one i strongly disagree with.

they had a guy on 2nd with 0 outs 4 or 5 times during that game and scored 1 run out of it. thats on the players for not getting it done. guy has a worlds series ring, hes not dumb.

In this situation, yes I believe he showed a "lack of managerial skills." Also, he took Bonderman out after 83 pitches, with a runner on 1st and 1 out. And Bonderman was starting to get in a groove - had thrown a few scoreless innings. The reliever promptly gives up a double to score the run. Nice move, Leyland.

1 world series ring does not make a guy a terrific mgr.
