Cincinnati, Ohio - Hilton Magic may cast a spell over visiting teams, but it won't sway a selection committee.

If Iowa State wants to receive an invitation to the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, it must win on the road.

The Cyclones have a 25-1 record at home in two seasons under coach Wayne Morgan, but a 2-12 mark away from Hilton Coliseum.

"I think it's more a thing for the media to write about," center Jared Homan said. "In the team, it's another game. We want to go in and win it. We don't care if it's on the road."

Tonight, Morgan leads his squad (8-2) into Xavier's Cintas Center, for a 6:30 p.m. clash with the Musketeers (5-4).

For the Cyclones, this will be their first venture outside the state, and their final tuneup before beginning the Big 12 Conference schedule.

"It's a huge game for us," Homan said. "We want to go into conference 9-2. That puts us in a great position to win some games in the Big 12 and make the (NCAA) Tournament."

Iowa State will make two more trips in the next 12 days - Jan. 8 to Missouri and Jan. 15 to Oklahoma State.

Missouri represents the Cyclones' first opportunity to end a string of 25 road losses in the Big 12.

The last league win at an opposing venue came Feb. 21, 2001 at Kansas State, 62-51. That was also the last season Iowa State appeared in the NCAAs.

To make this year's field of 65 teams, the Cyclones probably need two or three victories away from Ames.

"This is a new year, and we've got to try to get a road win early," guard Curtis Stinson said.

Xavier could be a stepping stone.

Iowa State beat the Musketeers, 68-61, last season, but Xavier went on an impressive NCAA run before losing to Duke, 66-63, in a regional final.

New Musketeers coach Sean Miller began with just one returning starter from last season's Atlantic 10 Conference champions.

"We're pumped up to beat a great team that was in the Elite Eight last year," Stinson said.

i see them as 159. rpi says on neutral court ISU -6 so imo tonite should be a pick 'em as Cintas is formidible home court for Xmen. staying far, far away from this one but gl!!

Sagarin has ISU at -1.5

ISU does have a key reserve out for tonight that averages 5.0 pts a game and gives about 14 miniutes off the bench.

I made the game IOWA STATE -1 personally.

I read earlier that Curtis Stison (star SG) was banged up for the last game, but he still played. I'd say ISU clearly has the most talent here, but their past of not playing well on the road is there as well. They're a very young team that starts 2 freshman, 2 sophomores, and 1 senior. 2 road games this year, 1-1 ATS, the 1 cover against Iowa Hawkeyes (top 20), and were actually only down one with less than a minute left.

I personally like the ML of ISU +160

gotcha! i assign my own homecourt value so there's the discrepancy. (between 2-8 pts; find 4.13 too arbitrary. jmo. gl tonite!!)

ISU is (mis)lead by Wayne Mor(on)gan - the WORST COACH in college ball - no matter what level.

as a fullerton alum - it killed me to see long beach get rid of this clown for it meant 2 sur wins went down the drain and now we had to work to get them.

betting against a bood like mor(on)gan is too good to pass up. my thoughts on ISU games is if i can't bet AGAINST mor(on)gan i pass - fo i sure as hell can't bet on this clown!

I guess the books don't use the RPI numbers when setting the lines.
