Why GB will fail in the playoffs

Why is this packer offense a pale shadow of recent packer teams? Much has been written about Rodgers hiding an injury, or poor O-line play, or missing Gordy Nelson, or Eddie Lacy looking more like the Michelin man…..so just what is it?

Lets go back to the start of the year, early on they lost Nelson, but it seemed like they were adjusting. They began with 6 straight wins, beating Sea, KC and the rams. They rolled up 300+ yard passing games, 100 yd rushing games and cobb, jones and adams seemewd to be taking up for Nelsons absence.

Then in their 7th game, after the bye, so it was week 8, they went to Denver and were totally exposed. Rodgers threw for 77 yds, lacy ran for 38 and the league had a game plan for stopping rodgers. Bring the safetys up, so it was 8 in the box and single coverage on the receivers. Without Nelson, who isn't fast, but gets free on the line and runs great routes, they had no deep threat. Now the rushing game was lost. Play action was ignored, and suddenly the receivers never gained separation and the packers were sunk. Injuries on the Oline made it worse, but they were secondary.

They lost 3 straight, and 4 out of 5. Should have been 5 out of 6, but for Det's hail mary in week 13.

Now the question is why was Nelson the only guy able to stretch the field, and create holes in the middle? And when he went down, and his absence was used against GB why didn't they have an effective alternative. I'll bet you there is one next year.

So if you think GB lost on purpose last week, or that the old GB mystique will show up soon, forget it. GB's been held to 18 points or less 4 times in its last 8 games. (13, 8, 13, 18). And now it only gets tougher in the post season.

They are only a pick against a less than impressive Washington team. Seems to be lots of words written against GB...not sure why....anything is possible.

Also the rookie Montgomery was playing decent early and when he went down it cost them as well. Rodgers has mostly had a good tight end or athletic tight end that takes coverage and his tight end Rodgerd is slow as a slug, he should be a # 2 tight end not your pass catching option. They may best Washington but after that they get pounded

Loomis, excellent point.

My point was simply, this isn't the same as last years "RELAX" phase. This is more pervasive, and so far the pack has not demonstrated an ability to adjust.

We'll see.

That he is.

Nelson ran 100 meters in 10.63 seconds to win a Kansas state championship; that year only 15 boys in the U.S. ran 10.62 or faster.
Nelson ran only a 4.51 40 at the NFL scouting combine, but once he unwinds his long stride, he's a burner. He's 6'3. Maybe not the best starter, but makes up for it in stride.

I agree, the key to this season was that Aaron Rodgers Green Bay teams historically used great route combinations and superior scheme to beat defenses. Well, with an obviously diminished Randall Cobb (multiple leg injuries over 2 seasons) and no Jordy Nelson teams finally realized that all they had to do is man these guys up and stop the run. Plus their o-line is terrible which doesn't help a team that can't get open.

Redskins have something that the Pack don't have right now: playmakers on offense.

No way Packers will be able to stop Cousins and the Redskins O right now. Jordan Reed, DJax, Garçon, Crowder, Chris Thompson, and even the Matt Jones kid can catch the ball well. All of these guys can get separation and this Redskins offense is playing at a high level right now. I know it feels weird to say, but the Redskins offense is vastly superior to the Packers. Cousins is dominating people and getting better every week and has plenty of weapons around him that make big plays.

Redskins win this one going away and I think after the game people are going to be wondering why they didn't notice it sooner.

SS, or why green bay didn't figure a plan B just in case Nelson went down.

OK, mea culpa on Nelsons speed. But around the league hes also know as a precise route runner, and slippery enough to get free on the line. I.e., its not just speed. He lifts the top off a defense. Creating the open space for the other receivers in the mid zone. Without that threat, this is simply not the same team. Safeties up, stop the run.

GB a hail mary away from 3-7 in their last 10.

this is what troubles me:

"The game that currently has had the biggest sharp money is Packers-Redskins, with the sharp money on the Packers. 58 percent of point-spread tickets are on the Redskins and 52 percent of the point-spread total dollars wagered are on the Redskins, but the sharp money is on the Packers."

Redskins will win this game easily.
GB Oline is in shambles and That's being nice about the dire situation at hand.
The Skins are playing good ball and will come into this game with confidence and a QB playing great ball late in the season.

the Books have set the trap with a short line to make you think " wow, GB only has to WIN to cover this spread."
The real sharpe $ will come on Sunday , after the public slams GB and makes the Skins a dog.
heck that's when I'm gonna pounce on the Skins + whatever. XXL.

The Packers offense has become stagnant. Let Rodgers play more from the no-huddle and use picks and rubs and bunch formations to help compensate for the lack of quality receiving threats. Then as you play fast, get teams off-balance, and then come back to Lacy out of the spread. The Packers OC needs to change things around this week if they plan on winning this game.

Not sure which way this one goes, but I've been saying for years McCarthy is one of the biggest boneheads in the league and that's saying something in a league full of bonehead coaches. I'm not a Packers fan, but have owned Rodgers on my only two fantasy keeper teams since he took over the job and I've watched every single Packers game. McCarthy is an absolute idiot, with an a above average coach, not even strong, just above average, I truly believe Rodgers has three SB titles at this point instead of one.

I do a lot of work in Chicago/Milwaukee and nearly had my throat cut a few years ago for suggesting this guy is one of the worst coaches in the league. In the last 18 months I'm getting a hell of a lot more supporters, even from the most die hard fans.

The fans have been getting frustrated with McCarthy this season, in large part because of a perceived lack of adjustments to the offense's struggles.
I agree that McCarthy needs to move on but it's hard to imagine him losing his job. He and Ted Thompson are joined at the hip and he just received a contract extension last November.
If the Packers come out completely flat and get blown out on Sunday there's a chance he's gone but if they look even remotely competitive, I would be very surprised to see a change.
That said, I do expect a shakeup among the offensive assistants this off-season, given the struggles on that side of the ball.

Man I just think NE and GB are in the same boat......their OL's are terrible, and that is sad for Brady as I think when healthy his WR Corp was for once solid. I think GB is down on WR talent and combined with a terrible Pass Block OL it will doom them sooner than later.

Where GB sits right now, today.....I don't think there is a fix. Its a confluence of troubles, that has them 3-6 in L9.

I think Wash punches them in the face a wins comfortably.

BOL 2 all!!!
