Books DO ban advantage players. As soon as they figure out you know what you're doing they cut you off almost everywhere. Most real "sharps" as they say are betting offshore, not in Vegas.

I know they ban consistently large winners, which is why I kinda smirk about all the sharp action speculation

Hate how often the terms "square" and "Sharps" are used. There are guys betting 10 bucks and dudes betting 10 thou, but in the end there are just winners & losers. I think 90+% of guys that play lose consistently over time with the vig and poor money management. As far as whales playing offshore I believe that to be totally false, at least for american big timers. They use runner(s) in vegas. No one should trust the shady clowns in the Caribbean with more then a 500-1k. Also if Vegas books could identify "sharps" winning above 55% all the time they would ban them all. Problem is its too hard to spot with any regularity. Just my .02 bol and go pats.

i knew a guy on ss welfare that was sharper thsn the sharps. he bet 10 bucks a gm and won all the time. eventually he helped bigger gamblers out and got paid and made lots of money, then started betting big numbers and you know what? he started to lose. he lost his edge.

Got it. There are certainly squares who will lose over time. Very tough to be a 'sharp' over time. Not sure how banning these players works. I know lots of books can detect and band algo based strategies / arbitrage

Neither do I and I've worked with some that identified themselves that way.

In my experience they fall into two camps.

One group is made up of people that lie to you.

The other group is made up of people that lie to themselves.

The term "Sharp" is used when referring to a professional bettor, they typically wager larger amounts of money. They don't need to win every bet, just win more than they lose.
