Im watching CINCI pitch and man that guy is going inside like crazy, I wonder, wwhy doesnt someone go BARRYBONDS and don a FULL Kevlar suit and lean into his pitches and take 30 bases?

is this just a kind gentle unspoken rule??

a Batter wont use armour just because he doesnt want to hurt the pitchers feelings?

Ive heard many bad talk BB calling him a biotch for not "manning up" and taking the battle gear off.

I guess it just doesnt make sense to me, It seems like a viable strategy to gear up and lean in?

barry had medical reasons for wearing that stuff. elbow surgery.
mlb doesn't let you do it unless you have medical reasons for it.

because if a batter leans into a pitch or doesnt make an effort to get out of the way, it will be called a ball or strike (which ever it is) and he will remain in the box.

I umpire high school baseball and I have to enforce this rule a bit

The relevant rule regarding HBP:

Rule 6.08(b) of the Official Baseball Rules

6.08 The batter becomes a runner and is entitled to first base without liability to be put out (provided he advances to and touches first base) when--

(b) He is touched by a pitched ball which he is not attempting to hit unless
(1) The ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, or
(2) The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball; if the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if he makes no attempt to avoid being touched.

I will be the first to admit I know ZEEEROOOO about mlb, In my own twisted mind I theorize, geesh if i was in the box and GEARED UP, I would just wait for that inside pitch (outside the SZ) and let it gash my gear.

then Laugh at the PITCHER and grab my balls as i take the first base!!

Umpires are usually very lenient with the "must attempt to avoid" part of the rule (Don Baylor made a career of standing in the way of inside pitches), but any batter who came to the plate fully loaded with protective gear then just stood there probably wouldn't get any benefit of the doubt.

people got grandfathered into the protective gear if they had been wearing it before the new rule made a few yrs back outlawing the giant padding, so guys are less likely to stick out a limb now

Correct.

There are no limitations, as far as I'm aware, for players to not be permitted to wear armour most anywhere they want it.

can't remember the game i was watching not long ago, bases loaded in the 9th or 8th and the batter jumped back to avoid getting hit and it would of put him on 1st and the team leading and he ended up grounding out leaving runners stranded.
