Why does Dayton get treated like a #1 seed?

Get to play the play in game on their home court. Then get sent to Columbus OH - right down the road from them. Why is Oklahoma a 3 seed playing an 11 seed basically playing a home game. That is an absolute major flaw of the tournament when these lower seeds are getting basically home games. No way in the fucking world Dayton should have been allowed to play on their home court. But at least don't send them to another close site. There is a rule against a team playing on their home court for the tournament but not the play in? What a joke.

This has been discussed ever since the 'first 4' began. "What if" a team that qualifies for the first 4 is from the OH area? Well, it finally happened and there's likely to be a change to protocol next year to prevent it happening again.

But it's not like it's skewed to Dayton's advantage intentionally. Some other factors that came into play:

Of the 4 pods containing 11 seeds, BYU HAD to be scheduled in a Thu/Sat pod due to the school never playing on Sunday.
Texas had to be in MW to avoid playing a conf opponent in 2nd/3rd round

When the chips fell, there weren't a lot of options...aside from Columbus.

That's interesting Nitty, didn't realize the Mormons had a problem with sports on Sunday.

Thank you for some of the insight but I still feel they could have been placed elsewhere. They could have been stuck in another region as an 11 and not in the play in game. Just frustrating when you see an 11 seed playing basically a home game vs. a 3 seed. I am sure Oklahoma is wondering as well.

i'd make 2 play in sites...one Dayton on Tuesday, one in, say, Dallas, on Wednesday. maybe move it around to alleviate teams having significant travel.

and Dayton should never have been allowed to the Columbus POD. they could have been sent elsewhere. that was pretty unfair. that's like sending 11 seed Texas to play in the San Antonio POD.
