I would give the bastard 350 walks a year as long as he has that AAA team around him. Un-blievable!!!

amazing they shut them out for 8 innings, then walk the first 2 batters in the 9th.....get 2 outs, then give up a hit to Grissom to tie it, then pitch to Bonds to win it....

kinda odd...

ARghhhh!

Intentionally walking a guy is devastating to your expected runs you are going to give up.

Even if he hits .450 with 50 homers, it won't generate nearly as much runs as walking him each at bat will. Bonds doesn't make Sports Center from his walks, but I guarantee you he will score over and over and over and over from it.

It's amazing. People feel that it's ok to Walk Bonds and get beat by the next batter, and it's ok. But if you get beat by Bonds, you are an idiot. Who cares about the math, or any Monte Carlo simulation.

The question is:
Do you think Bonds is more likely to get a double or better to win orif you walk him:
Will Feliz get a single or better to win?

I take option B at that point every time!

And to hell with that idiotic theory that the fans came to see him hit. The Rockies Manager's(just like all managers) job is to win as many games as possible not to send Giants' fans home happy.

Almost the same situation in the 7th. Giants had men on 1st & 2nd, 2 outs. They pitched to Bonds and got the out. So I don't think you can crucify them for pitching to Bonds in the 9th.

SAN FRANCISCO 7TH
-B Dallimore hit for B Tomko.
-Bottom of the 7th inning
-B Dallimore struck out swinging.
-N Perez singled to center.
-E Alfonzo singled to shallow left, N Perez to second.
-M Grissom fouled out to first.
-J Lopez relieved S Reed.
-B Bonds lined out to shortstop.

0 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors
Colorado 2, San Francisco 0

It really depends on who is protecting the "Slugger". When you look at hitters with a lot of intenional walks they are from teams that didn't have strong clean-up men behind the big man. Players that come to mind: Ted Williams (most ever by AL lefty in a season), George Brett (most ever in AL all time), Sammy Sosa (led Majors in 2001), Tim Raines (most ever by Switch Hitter in a season) and of course Bonds has had pathetic support from hitters behind him the last few years, same with Frank Howard (Senators) and Frank Thomas.

That was a classic fixed baseball game tonight was a night made for the homefans as the giants, indians, whitesox, phillies, and royals all win in last atbat also the tigers just missed by leaving them loaded in the 9th and the astros tied their game in 9th before losing in 10th hell even the brewers and the d-rays threatened in the 9th odd how all the bullshit happens in 1 night!

Tell that to Rockies relievers Tim Harikkala (2nd blown save in two nights) and Shawn Chacon. I doubt if they were grooving pitches on purpose.

AP:
Don't agree with you on fixed games but when Indians win 1-0 and Bucs win pair on two walk-off HRs it is indeed a rare evening!

colorado is an awful road team. they should have been able to produce more runs vs. tomko with that line up and then this would'nt be an issue.

tomko coming in:

IP . W-L SV ERA Ks BB
50.2 1-3 0 5.51 26 19

tomko is a gas can. . . for only allowing 2 through 7, he more than deserves the win

The real issue that was exposed tonight is the importance of a good bullpen. Teams like the Rockies, Indians, Royals, Cubs, Rangers, Expos and a few others are really hurting in the pen this season.

Thursday night Bob Brenly walked Bonds with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the tenth. He managed to get to second and moments later scored on a single to right. Giants 5 DBacks 4.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
