Why do some posters care so much about their online reputation?

Why do some posters concern themselves so much with their reputation here at the RX? When guys are arguing back and forth you will frequently hear them mention it and it just seems like it means way too much to a lot of RX members (not everyone, just some)

You could take any two posters on this site that hate each other and if they ran into each other at the grocery store they wouldn't be the wiser. If they met at a party or something, they would be perfectly friendly having no clue they are talking to their enemy from the internet.

So, if no one in real life ever knows what your reputation is here, why worry so much about it?

some of these people have met.. your more likely not to care if you are an asshole and don't plan on meeting any of these people in person.. If you are planning on meeting people online, you probably do care how your preceived....

- Said he hoped to make a splash when joining the RX
- Tried to make himself seem more important than he is asking if he should leave his dream job for a better dream job where he is #1 (which no way he is in charge of anything)
- Puts his baseball YTD in his sig line
- Bumps his own posts when he wins
- Doesn't understand when to use '
