I can't understand this. I love my teams! When I was young I picked the teams I liked and stuck with them thru thick and thin.

Dallas Cowboys
Boston Red Sox
Hartford Whalers
Boston Celtics

How in the world can you put the Hartford Whalers in the same group as the other 3 great teams you just named??

Celtics, RedSox and Cowboys....

What the hell were you thinking when you picked the Whalers, who were nothing back then, and are not even in the league today? If you liked Redsox and Celtics so much, why didn't you choose the Bruins at least...

Whalers????????????? I can't believe I just heard that..

The Whalers?????????????????????????????? LOL

I have stuck by my Cincinnati Bengals ever since I was old enough to watch. So I must be a true fan.

I am a gambler. My favorite teams are the ones that win when I bet on them.A serious gambler cannot win long-term if he depends on sentiment.

Dante is right, people change teams b/c they are band wagon jumpers and generally not true sports fans.

Its easy to call them out on it..Just ask them some questions like so:
1) ask them to name their 3 all time players on their "favorite" team, that type of thing..
2) ask them do you like so and so b/c you are from there and you usually can find out in their answer if they are a legit fan or a dumbass bandwagon jumper.

personally mine are
1) Vikings (from minny)
2) twins
3) nuggets (lived in colo when twolves came)
4) avs
5) cu buffs (alum)

Never will understand why people flip flop on teams..guess its an insecurity/need to feel loved thing..

The star guard cheats on his wife, and may have raped someone.

Call me jaded, but it makes me less willing to pay $200 for a ticket to go and cheer for that team.

I am a Gambler and when I have a good future prop that team becomes my favorite. But over the Years I have been a big Packer and Cub fan. I was a huge LA Ram fan back in the day. I had a good reason to jump ship when they moved. Also a big Dodger fan but when they got rid of Piazza I said goodbye. Legitmate reasons for cheanging favorite teams in my opinion.

Agree with Dante....Longtime Steeler fan here....watched them as a kid when Bradshaw and Swann and Franco, Lambert, Ham, Shell played....never had the same enthusiasm for any sports team since....maybe I'm getting old or maybe the gambling has dulled my intensity for watching the game.....

Question: I'm from Nebraska....why is it everybody and thier dog around here is either a Chiefs, Vikings, or Broncos fan.....at one time there were a lot of 49er fans here just from the fact that Craig and Rathman ran for Frisco....has the fact that these are the nearest "local" teams available have anything to do with it????

Is this the Nebraska fan's way of cheering for the home team???

For those of you living on either coast or in other geographic locations....do you find this to be true for the majority of fans you know, to pick a team that's close to the area????

I agree with this statement. I have teams I root for but only one, in baseball (Mets) that I will rarely play against b/c it hurts too much. (I won't play on them much either). Now as for the Jets, I have season tickets and will drop a dime against them and go to the game and root against them. No qualms.

Vaulted Treehouse.....

You can't bet against the Mets..
You can't bet on the Jets...

Changing one letter, from Mets to Jets make one hell of a difference...

I don't blame kids for switching favorite teams these days. Owners, names and players change each year.

There isn't a rich history anymore. Teams will turn on their fans faster than the fans give up on them.

If you stuck it out with the Charlotte Hornets for their short existance, you were rewarded with the Bobcats.

'Dozer has a good point here....no loyalty to teams anymore.....loyalty to the $$$....awful hard to bet these games when the players change like dice at a craps table.....

Dante....yeah, Steelers rocked at one time...would be nice to see it again....speaking upon what I just wrote above, at least the Steeler players had some loyalty to the team back then....maybe one of the last of that breed.....after the 70's that attitude went down the crapper....
