I'll tell you why. after four years of Bush there has been a 1.3 million rise in the ranks of America's poor and a 1.4 million increase in Americans without health insurance

A textual analysis by the New York Times found that the word "jobs" had been used by podium speakers 28 times in the first three days; "Kerry" was mentioned 86 times

I must be in the financial elite then. I have health coverage. The economy is doing fine for me. Even with the "choking" effect of these gasoline prices and skyrocketing health care I still have dispensible income. My retirement and investment portfolio's have risen 16% so far this year. It may not be the 194% of a couple of years ago but it's solid.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of these poor are old geezers or families. I don't care what your name is, kids are expensive. You shell out money all the time and when it comes time to see how much you have left you turn your wallet upside down and shake it and when nothing falls out

.

This may not be the root cause everywhere but where I live the parents choose to have children when they can barely support them financially. It's their decision but they shouldn't come crying to me if the life is tough. Some of them have a serious problem of getting married and divorced all the time which further exacerbates the situation both emotionally and financially.

so I guess it's o.k. now that if you try to raise kids in America it's gonna put you in the poor house? Inflation, health care costs, energy prices, tuition costs, all are sailing upward, mostly due to corporate greed i.m.o. Same people that are getting tax breaks from Bush are gouging us left and right. It's freakin ridiculous, then they have the nerve to say they are compassionate to the poor. what a freakin' joke!

George will help the poor and those who are struggling.

Its a high powered economic recovery program called 'the trickle down effect' and 'charity'.

I don't know if your post was directed at me but my intent was to rebuke the parents that aren't in a good position financially to raise children. It's all economics and common sense.
My advice is to wait until the potential parent retires certain debts so that they would be in a better position to provide for their family. If they don't see a point like that and want to have kids: Go for it! However, be warned of the situation that awaits you.

Uncle Moneybags, I believe that you are correct. The whole point is personal responsibility. Nobody else is responsible for my decisions, and I don't want them to be. Why should I be responsible for others horrible decision making?
Also, the left is always bitching about people not having health insurance, when these people really just need health care! If there was no insurance, virtually everybody could afford all of the health care they would ever need. The Goddamn John Edwards type lawyers have cost more people access to health care, than anybody else. (yet, those dumbasses are pulling for this guy, unbelievable!) This includes those with insurance,as people quit the medical field and now nobody can find a Dr.
85% of the people in this great nation have health insurance, a number somewhat higher have health care. It must not be that hard to get it if you truly want it. If you don't want it then don't complain when the day comes that you need it, that is why it is called "insurance". 10 years after the day health care is free, then nobody will have any health care, but we will all have health insurance! You can never have enough of any product or service when it is free. Godspeed, thepig.

Inflation is incredibly low, health care costs are high because of liability issues and progress in treatment, and energy prices in real terms are the same as they were 35 years ago. Nice try though.

Unkle Moneybags, I understand your argument and agree to a certain extent, but the bottom line is, our economy is shit, especially for the poor, and if someone wants to have a child I can't 100% blame them if they have to work 2 jobs along with their spouse just to stay afloat.

The government tells you inflation is low, so you believe it? Why am I getting gouged wherever I go then whenever I buy something? The price of everything is going up. Maybe the factors they guage for inflation aren't high, but it's decieving, because the cost of living is obviously going up. And wages are not going up to make up for it, if anything they are going down.
Energy prices are the same, huh? is that a joke? How about gas and electricity, the price of electricity has been soaring on the west coast for years now. Gas as you know is at an all-time high. And those costs are getting passed down to consumers. It's called inflation!!! And health care costs, just look at the way they are handling the Canadian drug situation, that will give you a clue as to the corporation's stance on health care. They want the price of drugs to be astronomically high, otherwise they wouldn't come up with the pathetically weak argument that Canadian drugs aren't safe.
