The over under for the season was 9.5.
They overachieved as far as the regular season and got themselves a number 1 seed. Ultimatley they underachived as that number 1 seed.

But one thing is for sure there always going to be in the conversation for the next 5 years or better unlike 25 or so other NFL teams.
I was one of the idiots that wagered Bel9ichick and took the under 9 1/2 wins ! I usually win most of my overs and unders but I will never bet the under again when Belichick is the coach. I think this year was probably his finest year as this team was very flawed and yet He hid it until yesterday. Tons of new players throughout the lineup.

i thought the number was right (9.5) i had em going 10-6 tops 8-8 wouldn't have surprised me.
Pats had the youngest D in the league but they were a straw D.The O covered up for them a lot.Defense wins championships and we see all the time.

"Patriots are a great franchise" - i agree with that statement. just gotta think they are kickin themselves for lettin a couple of titles get away from them in the last few years is all.

If you believe in that statement what is the point of this thread. You contradict yourself. They are a great franchise and nobody can argue that with the success they have had. They have been outplayed the last 3 or 4 playoff games. Period.

how is it a contradiction to say they are a great franchise that has to be dissappointed with no super bowl wins to show since the 2004 season?

Their recent playoff troubles is a concern for sure. There were a few things BB would like to have back from yesterday like the fake punt(not sure who called it) and the lack of urgency in the 4th.
However, looking at the season. A lot of holes were filled and young talent played over their heads. Nobody talks about their injuries because the replacements played so well that you forgot who was missing. On the offensive side of the ball you lost Faulk, Neal, Kaczur, Taylor for most of the season, Gostowski, Mankins missed half of the year, the loss of Moss production. On the defense Warren, Bodden, McGowen, Brace, Wright, Wilhite.
So yes there is concern and frustration for they way the seasons have been ending. But when you look at drafting/signing players and coaching of those players it was a very successful season for the Pats.

I just thought that people thinking the Jets game shouldn't even have been played was laughable. Out of the 11 losses suffered by NE in the last two years, the JETS have dished out 3 of those losses.

this isnt the atlanta braves were are talking about here....they have 3 in the books and after yesterdays loss and watching these playoffs as a whole (seeing seattle knock off NO and balt blow a DD lead at pitt)....ive come to realize its HARD to win a superbowl. everyone left is an elite team and as we have seen anyone can beat anyone on a given sunday thats what makes the nfl so great. i told a buddy at work today (1st thing out of my mouth) i have a new respect for the 3 SB's this team has won the past decade

im gonna laugh if the jets lose next week, is their season a success b/c they beat NE and lost to pitt in the afc championship? it would be the 2nd one in a row. should ryan get a 10 year contract extension for getting to the afc title game in b2b years only to lose both games? let them get a ONE superbowl with rex ryan let alone win a SB before they get all riled up....

i tip my cap to them they talked shit all week long came into gillette where brady doesnt lose and they punched them in the face. this game reminded me of the giants SB a few years ago, beat them in week 17 met them a month later and the giants punched them in the mouth and won the game

pats have the core coming back if they draft well they will be back. but even if they are back, you still have to win the games in the postseason....and as we have seen its not easy

I can't ever recall in my lifetime anything like that 18-1 season....it was a disappointment in the end but they kept steamrolling over everyone....the lines were over 2 TDs and they were still covering with ease.....i think the lines started to get into the 20s too and everyone still kept riding the pats.

They're a great team while cheating and a darn good team while playing by the rules.
They were 1 play away from 19-0 and the greatest team ever after the overblown spygate...and no team ever went 18-0 in anytime during a season and no team has ever gone 16-0 in the regular season.
So hang on to your hate and jealousy if you want. Doesn't change the fact that they will be competing for a SB for years to come.Let that bother you.

You don't tihnk they win SB 39 without vinatieri? I know his contribution of 3 XPs and a 25 yard FG were key that day but I feel like someone else could've hit those clutch kicks.
