This season, the role of the Enforcer diminished greatly. Tough guys like Colton Orr and Brian McGrattan were sent to the minor league. Other fighters like Jody Shelly and George Parros were not offered contracts.

Most all teams moved away from having the one or two big tough guy who's role was primarily to fight, to players who can actually play a little and also play the tough guy role.

Who do you consider the best tough guy/fighters for 2015?

is there any such thing anymore? Since the NHL implemented the instigator rule, enforcers have slowly dies off and are a thing of the past.

these 2 were some of the best

I've always hated the fake fighting. Love the spontaneous fights though, that are emotionally charged. Glad that each team having a goon that can't skate on the squad is a thing of the past.

Fighting was probably down during the 2014-15 season but still some guys dropped the gloves with regularity. Colorado's Cody McLeod fought 19 times. Vancouver's Derek Dorsett went 17 times followed by Montreal's Brandon Prust 16 fights.

What I found interesting was only one NHL player went over 200 penalty minutes. Steve Downey spent 238 in the sin bend.

One player I would like on my team is Washington's Tom Wilson. He's only 21 years old, will drop the gloves (12) when needed and can skate a regular shift.

Scottcarter, if you want to see a slobber knocker between two of the best heavy weights ever, post youtube....

(Bob Probert vs Marty McSorley Rd. 4 HD)

This fight went on for almost 4 minutes. I'd post it but don't know how.

That was a better fight than the last Mayweather fight and the fans got a hockey game to go with it

Thanks Scott...appreciate you Bud.

In my opinion, Bob Probert is the best player to ever play the 'Enforcer' role in the National Hockey League. He played 18 seasons for Detroit and Chicago all at the NHL level. During that time, he fought every tough guy in the league. Proby could also play, he scored 168 goals and almost 400 points during his career.

Check out Probert and Craig Coxe two fights. Two of the most action packed fights in NHL history. Also, one of the most brutal fights I have ever seen...not sure theRX will allow you to post it Scott. Youtube, Toddler Hockey Fight...help me mama!

Thanks for your help Scotty........................

NHL All Time Penalty Minute Leaders

Player......................Minutes........Games......PMPG
1. Tiger Williams.........3966...........962..........4.12
2. Dale Hunter............3563..........1407.........2.53
3. Tie Domi................3515...........1020........3.45
4. Marty McSorley.......3381........... 961.........3.52
5. Bob Probert............3300............935.........3.53
6. Rob Ray.................3207...........900..........3.56
7. Craig Berube...........3149..........1054.........2.99
8. Tim Hunter.............3146...........815..........3.86
9. Chris Nilan..............3043...........688..........4.42
10. Rick Tocchet..........2972..........1144.........2.60

Some pretty tough 'enforcers' in the above list. I believe Bob Probert was the best all-time tough guy because of his longevity and because he faced up all comers during his 18 years.

I'm old school.

I played hockey for 10 years growing up, so I NEVER missed "Hockey Night Canada." During the playoffs, I watched every night.

The late eighties, early nineties was an outstanding era. The league was still mostly made up of Canadian and American players. Unlike now, with all the Euros. So it was easy for me to relate to the players.

To me, the Battle of Alberta in the old Smythe Division, was the greatest rivalry in hockey.

Tim Hunter vs Dave Semenko was my favorite heavyweight battle from that era. One playoff series, they fought 3 or 4 times (twice in one game) with numerous scuffles.

Bob Probert was very tough, as well.

Old school here with you partner. Dave Semenko was a great teacher for Marty McSorley when McSorley was coming into the league. Mac praises Semenko for allowing him to develop as a player and tough guy while trying to make it in the league.

Hunters...Tim and Dale were as mean and tough as they come. Dale had more minutes but Tim wasn't far behind...especially with the mouth.

I love the old school fighters.....know them well.......................................
