Sam Bowie was a bigger bust than Ralph Sampson, but injuries played a major part.

Billy Owens was bust considering people were saying he could be the next Magic Johnson.

And the biggest stiff in the pros had to be a #1 pick and had to never play a game where he earned his money. That would only be 1 guy. Kwame Brown was the #1 pick in the 2002 N.B.A. draft and has never even played like a player drafted late in the 2nd round.

Honorable mention goes to Michael Olowokandi for sure. Another #1 pick, but he did play a bunch of years and would destroy Kawame Brown and that's pretty bad.

I'd add Shawn Bradley.

#2 overall pick never amounted to anything but a skinny, gawky white Manute with pointy elbows.

You're right! The question was CBB player. Then the pick would have to be Olowokandi because he was a #1 pick in the draft and never played like it.

But he wasn't a great cbb player was he??? The guy pretty much came out of nowhere it seemed to be the first overall pick. Some of the other guys in this thread were much better cbb players than this guy imo.

I don't think Sampson was a bust...just had injuries...Inrteresting when you look back at Ralph Sampson's carrer in college he never had that high of a scoring average, he was such a giant though at that time ...Buck Williams always outplayed Ralph when they battled it out.

Some off the top of my head...Danny Ferry, he was a tremendous four year college player, Christian Laettner anothr great collegian who was basically a journeyman in the NBA, Bobby Hurley a total flop in the NBA, career cut short by a serious auto accident.

Skip Wise (Clemson) left college after ONE year to join the ABA the team folded and Wise lost his chance at college ended up in jail.

Lou Rowe from UMASS , he was a great college player nothing in the NBA.

Walter Berry St Johns player of the year nothing in the NBA.

Washburn and Hawkeye Whitney NC State

Albert King was suppose to be the next big thing out of New York, he never really put it together, he did have a nice NBA career.

Sam Bowie UK

Marcus Liberty Illinois

Quinton Dailey San Francisco.

Kentucky had a PG Turner, who came out early , never made it.

Scottie Thurmond left Arkansas early wasn't even drafted.

Kenny Walker UK- Knicks scrub

Bo Kimble flopperoo from LMU

many more

Having not played in the NBA, it seems a bit ludicrous to call somebody a bust. Nevertheless: FWIW ...all for different reasons.

How about JR Reid? Great at NC, never more than a journeyman in the NBA.

No doubt that it has to be Ralph Sampson

NO 1 in my book,
I remember when my Rockets drafted him and he was the suppose to be the greatest w/ Hakeem and he was a joke.

Already mentioned, but I'd have to put Harold Minor in the top 3 to 5 in this category.

Bryant "Big Country" Reeves and Eric Montross, two of my favorite players in college but just never amounted to anything in the pros
