What's even more amazing is that Dale Brown never won an NCAA Championship with Pistol Pete or Shaq....

Bird and Pete are two of my favorite players of all time.

I'd have to say Bird was the better NBA players, and
Pete was better in college.

Both players were slowed by nagging injuries.

The amazing thing no one has mentioned about Pete, is that
he achieved greatness as a basketball player having been born
with a congenital heart defect. He only had one coronary artery,
instead of the normal two.

He replaced Maravich's father as HC when Pete left. I know he won one NCAA game with Shaq for sure, Indiana knocked them out in the second round.

A no-brainer. Bird was one of the top 5 players of all time, perhaps one of the top 3.

Not even close.

Yes, and for those who forget, Larry Bird virtually singlehandedly took INDIANA STATE to the NCAA finals.

In the middle of March Madness, the SEC Network will broadcast a retrospective documentary at the life of former LSU and Atlanta Hawks player “Pistol” Pete Maravich in “Maravich.”

The newest chapter of ESPN Films’ “SEC Storied” will premiere on March 12 at 9 p.m. and will look at one of college basketball’s most interesting personalities whose life ended at the age of 40 in 1988.

After three seasons at LSU, Maravich was selected third overall by the Hawks in the 1970 NBA Draft and spent 11 seasons in the NBA. As a pro, Maravich was voted a five-time NBA All Star, two-time NBA First Team and earned an NBA All-Rookie First Team nomination while playing with the Hawks, New Orleans and Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics. His No. 7 has been retired by the Jazz and Pelicans and his No. 44 has been retired by the Hawks.

The documentary, directed by Fritz Mitchell— a Peabody Award and Emmy winner— will cover the tragedy in Maravich’s life including his struggle with alcoholism and his mother’s suicide through ultimately finding hope through Christianity and becoming a preacher before he died on the basketball court after a pickup game.

I grew up watching Larry Bird and Magic Johnson compete. Those teams put the NBA where it is today. Bird would be part of the best starting 5 of all time, as well as Magic. I saw Maravich when he was injured and old with the Celtics. You could tell he was great. How great? We will never know, his teams sucked and his game was tailored to a one man show out of necessity. Bird for me.

Bird was the greater pro of the two...Pistol Pete was the greatest college player that I have ever seen..big difference...

Rail is a very disturbed individual...Bird was no ball hog...

Bird was so good, the first time he stepped on the parquet you knew he was that good.

Bill Walton Might be the greatest college player ever though
