My slightly biased vote goes to my hometown boy..........MARTIN ST. LOUIS of the TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING.

What a year for the little fella!!!

Also in the running are Ilya Kovalchuk or the Atlanta Thrashers, and Alex Tanguay of the Colorado Avs.

He should be right up there, great to see him have an impact considering the NHL was so anti "little guy" for quite some time.

I think Naslund should be @ the top of this list as well.

The former star at Vermont University who signed as a free agent with Calgary Flames in 1998.

In parts of two seasons with Flames he played in 69 games and scored only 4 goals adding 16 helpers.

Currently he is 1st in points in the NHL.
He is 4th in Goals, 3rd in assists and is tied for 2nd in plus/minus.

Perhaps more importantly he is leading an unheralded club to legitimate Stanley Cup contender status.

MR. JONES- I am sure pulling for him to win it!!!

If he continues on his current pace, and somehow Tampa remains the top team in the East, it would be hard not to give it to him.

ps- Do you see the Lightning may be getting Vinny Prospal back??? That would really be something if that happened!!

Just hope it wouldnt hurt team chemistry......but the guy can score!!

Team is playing real well Fish. Best goalie tandem I can recall ever seeing. All of those 20 goal scorers. Unprecedented here and quite an acheivement anywhere these days. You've got a nice mix of offensive defensemen and the stay at homes. All those young guys are now veterans. Stillman has done better than expected. All the pieces are in place. No key injuries. Please knock on wood.

Now you have to remember Vinny Prospal left for more $. At the time he did most pundits and fans felt like Prospal was the key to continued success for this franchise. For sure nobody expected an improvement over last year without him. Can't condemn a player for wanting more $, but I've seen one or two in one sport or another stick around and go for all the marbles with his teammates. Prospal was not one of those.

But now you are firing on all cylinders. Top 2 lines are producing to the point of almost having a contest amongst themselves as to which is really the top line. Do you want to juggle them and mess with that chemistry? Somebody would be skating on a third line and somebody would not be happy.

It's a good question. And that is my lean to on it. One key injury changes all of it though.

I know they won't give it to a guy from a bad team, but Rick Nash has kept his team from being worse than the Pens.
