Larry Walker. 5-tools and smart. Loved watching him dupe base runners, which is something many never saw on the highlight reels. Too bad he didn't like the game - may have been much better than he was.

Mickey Mantle saw him pinch hit a single at Fenway when I was 11 years old.
He was a shell of his once great self by then.

I am a Cardinal fan from the 80's so my favorite player was and always will be Ozzie Smith and I love Albert, but I got to say that Ricky Henderson was the best I ever saw play. Hate the way he said that shit after he beat Brocks record, but man could he play.

Wow.

Larry walker could have been one of the all time greats. Injuries really cheated him out of a hof type career

I liked watching him play. Not close to being the greatest I've ever seen but a good player.

Wow.

I was kinda expecting that response. Walker flies under the radar. When he was in Denver, I used to go to 40+ games/year just to watch him play (disappointed at times because of injuries). I saw him do some truly amazing things that you don't see unless you're at the park watching every move. This is a long article, but a good read if you have time: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1022725/1/index.htm. One of my favorite Walker memories is opening day (2000, I think) where he gunned a guy at home from the warning track, turned a single into a double by not slowing down and taking advantage of an outfielder lazily throwing the ball back to the infield, and saving a run by duping a base runner at second by making him thing he was going to catch the fly ball when it was really about to slam off the wall. Things like this - not towering shots into the concourse (although he had those too), but fundamental baseball. He did all this while wishing he was a hockey player, started late as opposed to others who began playing when they could walk, and did it with very little effort.
