Who is the BEST Starting Pitcher in Baseball.

No one really sticks out like in years past. Roy Halladay, Russ Ortiz, Estaban Loaza, Jason Schmidt, Pedro Martinez, Mike Mussina, Kerry Wood, Barry Zito, Tim Hudson, Andy Pettite and several others come to mind.

D2 - Good point, I just listed guys that came to mind. I am thinking of Josh Beckett, he has a chance to join that group at the top soon. His stuff is wicked, this year should tell a lot.

I also like Mark Prior I think he's great and really in control of all his pitches.

It depends what you mean by best.

If I was a manager, and had the choice of acquiring any pitcher in baseball for that season, I'd take Prior.

If it was Game 7 of the WS and I had to choose a pitcher to start, it'd be Schilling.

Pedro...But he`s only a 6-7 inning guy now...

Prior is probably right there at the top...

Alt of these guys are getting up there, its hard to say which way they go this year...Shilling, Pedro, Randy Johnson they all seem to be nearing the end...They all could still be magnificent too...Remember Clemens looked done and then won 3 more Cy Young Awards...

d2...i'd have to agree. prior is a cut above and is getting better. ortiz & loaiza do not belong but, i'd leave mussina on the list.

i'd also dump kerry wood from this list. he has to be the most overrated guy there is. he is a .500 pitcher for cry-eye.

also, where is oswalt? i'd say that prior & pedro are in a class by themselves. the next tier is schilling, oswalt, zito, beckett, schmidt, halladay & mussina.

Transition period right now. Some of the real great ones getting grey and some of the kids not quite yet in their prime.

Halladay, who added another pitch, and Prior as good as any but there should be a clearer picture after this year.

The only reason I never mentioned Oswalt was because of the on again off again season he had last year because of injuries.

Josh Beckett is clearly the best pitcher in baseball, the guy throws a 91 mph changeup. And is obvviously a clutch performer.

Blue, I think this will be Woods breakout year. He is already having a good spring, and he matured alot in the playoffs last year.

I think a strong case can be made for Josh Beckett...

The kid is young and appears to be ready to peak like he did in the World Series against The Yankees...

I would choose him before any other Pitcher out there if I were starting a team this season...
