What's dominating? Throw out some stats.

Dice-K was a huge waste of money if he doesn't go AT MINIMUM...

16-9 3.25

That's the MINIMUM, and Boston will still be in dissapointment with the cash they threw at this guy he should be Cy Young every year.

I have him at..

Japanense hitters arn't nearly as powerful as MLB hitters. Their pitchers arn't nearly as good as MLB pitchers so their hitters arn't adapt to hitting anybody above average.

I see an Irabu here.

18-7, 3.08 ERA, 180Ks. Something like that is what I have him pegged. Japanese hitters aren't as powerful as MLB hitters but Dice-K absolutely dominated our US boys in the WBC and has dominated all spring against MLB talent. He won't have a 2.21 ERA or whatever he is used to in Japan but he'll be very effective IMO.

You can't compare Japanese baseball to US baseball...

You can compare Japanese baseball to the MLB....because some of our best hitters and pitchers are from other countries who were obviously on different teams for the WBC...

Including the best of Japan (Ichirio, Matsui, etc.)

Actually I was wrong. I don't know if Dice-K ever went against USA.

I still think the guy is going to be amongst the top 10 pitchers in baseball. Only time will tell.

beckett

if you cant take matsuzaka over beckett, then you couldnt take papelbon over beckett for the same reasons. one year does not make a pitcher.

when beckett is in a groove (or not battling what seems like his annual case of blisters) he is one of the 5-6 best pitchers in the game. his consistency, or lack thereof, probably keeps him in the 'best 10-12' range though.

dominated all spring??? you must be on a different satalite angle than i.

he didnt dominate at all. pitched ok but his walk to strike ratio is not that good. lol one spring training game was against boston college and that was his best game.
anyways if you come up with a few bucks off a win somewhere maybe you should try and get cable that gets nesn and you'll see the angle where he hasnt proven much

He allowed like 4 runs in 20+ innings. Just 11 hits. He walked more than he should but he's experimenting with a new pitch and still dominated.

Paps is the best pitcher going into the season. Dice-K has the best stuff. Schill is the hardest worker and will be very reliable, but not great. And Beckett is the wild horse. If he can figure out how to get people out with something other than his fastball, then we might see the pitcher of a few years ago.

And Dice-K strikes out the side. All he needs now is some run support. Sox leaving alot of guys in scoring position.

Wakefield (4-3) yielded three hits, struck out five and walked one, lowering his ERA to an AL-best 1.79.
