We all know who #1 is, but who is #2? Many expect that QB to be Seth Russell of Baylor. Most of that talk is based on the return of an experienced offensive line and some talented skill players behind him.

The QB I hear the most talk about is Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph. He did very well stepping into the #1 spot last season as a Freshman. He also get's a huge break in the schedule, with a very soft non-con schedule, and home games in November against TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma.

Another oddity is this. Apparently the odds for the rest of the Big 12 (minus TCU) to have the same person start the first and last game of the season at QB is rather low. A full scale scramble is expected at Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas State and unless the starting QB's produce winning results in a hurry, they are gone. Those teams play each other between October 10th and 24th. Even the Senior starting QB's at Iowa State and Kansas seem to be vulnerable. Interesting.

Yeah, TCU's Trevone Boykin is getting all the ink and deservingly so. The kid is a player and should be recognized as first class. Don't think anyone knows
who the conference next best QB might be. My guess is Baylor's Seth Russell since he has the best offensive line and
receivers in the conference. Also, keeping in mind his RB's are maybe only second to Oklahoma. Guessing Russell will do well understanding how Baylor's offense has performed lately. Matter of fact, with the supporting cast available to him and the coaching he will receive...I'll bet on it. Seth Russell will be a player in the Big 12 conference this season.

I agree, but I wonder how much of that is Russell and how much is the talent that surrounds him?

This will be a rebuilding/reloading season for a number of the top tier Big 12 teams as the QB position was hit hard by graduation. OU could possibly have a mess at QB, KSU lost their QB as well as Tyler Lockett and the best Center they had in years, Strong needs at least another year at UT to sort things out, WV has to replace too much talent, and TT, KU and ISU aren't going to make any waves with who they have. Briles has shown the ability in the past to be able to reload more than rebuild, but Baylor (even though they return 17 starters) has still lost some significant talent. The only 2 QB positions that are settled are OSU and TCU. And I expect OSU to be the team that challenges TCU for the Big 12 this year. In fact it's not that much of a stretch that they could both be undefeated when they meet in Stillwater in late November. If that's the case, it could very well be for a playoff birth. Right now i would say Gundy burning Rudolph's redshirt was a very good move. But we'll know more when we get into the season. But I like what Gundy has done this year in hiring some very good position coaches on offense. Something they had a serious lack of last season after Wickline departed for Texas.

Interesting that you pick Okie State over Baylor. Now I agree that Okie State certainly has the capability of upsetting a team or two, but if that is the best the Big 12 can do, they really do not deserve to have a team in the playoffs.

Why is picking OSU any different than picking Baylor? They are both similar type programs with similar past successes. I don't get your Big 12 attitude at all...Why does this conference bother you so much?
