Who is going to grow some balls and take the Houston Astros ML +132 with me for 5k this afternoon?

I took yesterday off after hitting 4 straight huge 5k wagers and then losing on the Red Sox Tuesday night (they had a 4-0 lead in that game and then went to sleep). My wins were huge, I am still on fire and I don't always post all my plays here so it's tough to keep up. Having said that I am posting all of my big plays here on a regular basis for all sports.

This is a no-brainer. Again this game reminds me of that Tuesday afternoon game between the Braves and the Mets. We had a young pitcher on the mound for the Mets who had no idea what to do as a home favorite in an afternoon game going up against a more veteran pitcher who has been here and done this before. Brian Moehler is not as bad as everyone thinks and he is certainly not as bad as the numbers indicate. Sure his record and his ERA on the season are complete garbage but if baseball was all about betting on the better pitcher we would all be screwed most of the time.

Excuse me but the road team in this series has won 9 of the last 10 meetings so give me:

Houston Astros ML +132

That is my large wager of the afternoon. Let me tell you a bit more about this. Sure the Cubs are on fire but they have a fuckin rookie on the mound. Randy Wells is young and he is not tested in the bigs. He pitched well against the Brewers in his first major league start but the Brew Crew can be pedestrian at times and this is completely different. This is a home game, in the afternoon with everyone watching.

Some other things to consider here:

  • Brian Moehler is coming off his first strong start of the season and he will be confident in this game.
  • Brian Moehler knows a thing or two about pitching at Wrigley where he is 2-0 in his career. He was a 2-0 winner here on August 4, 2008 where he pitched 5.0 solid innings of shutout ball.

Did you guys know that Randy Wells has yet to allow a run in MLB in his short career and that is not going to last through the day today. I mean you have to understand that:

  • Houston is 5-1 in their last six games versus right handed starters and have won 7 of their last 10 road games versus righties. (the kid is going to have problems I think).

Also keep in mind that the Cubs although they score a lot of runs and win a lot of games can sometimes be one of those teams that goes to sleep in afternoon games like this and they have been on my blacklist of afternoon teams for quite some time along with the Mets. 73% of the public is on the Cubs today and for the following reason I think the sheep are all being led over the cliff:

  • The Cubs are hitting only .247 against righties at home this season
  • The Cubs available bullpen pitchers have a combined ERA of 5.12 on the season.
  • Aramis Ramirez and Milton Bradley are still out
  • In 5 of Brian Moehler's 7 career starts against the Cubs he has allowed only 3 runs or less in those games.

Anyways I am done talking about this. You are all on the Cubs and I love the Astros so this is not going to change anybody's mind. Just know that a young pitcher in a day game like this is asking for trouble when you bet on the Cubs and the Astros have enough fire power themselves that they can tag the kid for some runs and never have to look back. Both bullpens suck so the team that leads at the halfway point will probably win. This would be sweet $$$.

g/l Flave!! Feel a little uneasy on the Cubs now. Moehler was awful his first appearence this year in Houston. Both teams are hot however your 5k bets have been killing lately so I guess I am screwed.
