You forgoot to add the option GOVERNMENT.

Back in the day they introduced sports lotteries (parlay cards) and I was hooked from day 1.

LOL, Not Here. The US Shows us All of that, and Now wants to take it away....

Well not lotteries, Daily Numbers, Scratch-offs, etc....
Oh and Not Horse Racing either....

when i was a kid, like 5 yrs old, the only stats wed get on baseball were the Sunday paper....id lay in floor with the paper and my dad would ask me "whats chris chambliss batting, and whats rick rhodens era".

i remember one 49ers game where he made me a deal. if the 49ers covered wed go to the arcade, if they lost i had to cut the yard- they won and i got hooked on the action

For me it was genetics..

My grandfather passed away at Belmont..As the story goes my Uncle was with him at the time..

As the horses passed the finish line he grabbed his chest and was dead before he hit the floor..The gentlemen to his right felt for a pulse and confirmed he was DEAD..

At that moment my uncle looked at his tickets and said.."He may be dead, but hes alive in the double"

Took a family trip to Vegas in the early 90's back when Vegas was trying to push the whole family vacation experience. My Dad put a couple sports bets in on the Yankees for me at the Sportsbook in Excalibur. I went 3-0 overall on the trip. I became a gambler for life.

long time ago grocery stores gave away Day At The Races tickets as a promotion. The races, tapes of old races, were shown on local tv, if the horse on your ticket won, you won prizes. I think this increased the popularity of horse racing, something they could sure use now. First time i can ever remember being exposed to gambling.

My Dad. When I was around 12 or 13 my father started taking me with him to the pool halls. He was a damn good pool player and I would watch him bet a few k every time we went.

I remember that Akillies. I never won.

Before that when we would go to the movies on Saturday afternoon and we would get a ticket for every box of candy we bought. Before the movie started they would show an old horse race and if the number on our ticket was the same as the number of the horse we would win a ticket to the movies.

Real gambling for me was when my Dad brought me to the track. For some reason I remember my Dad going to the ticket taker and telling him he had a season ticket and asked the ticket taker if he wanted to see it. The ticket taker said "no, that's all right".

I asked my Dad why he didn't ask to see it and my Dad said because the ticket taker figured if my Dad asked if he wanted to see it he would run the risk of having him say yes and if he didn't have one he would be exposed as not having one.

that reminds me i dont remember ever winning, or what could be won. I expect i must have won something small or it would not had a lasting effect. I do remember that almost all the tickets were losers.

friend ran stupid parlay cards for a bookie my 1st year of college and got me hooked.

First time I filled one out I picked 8 or 9 teams and gave him $2......of course I hit them and won like $98 or something...... and the rest is history. Sixteen years later here I am!

A "friend of mine" who knew a bookie when I didn't know any so he proceeded to take an extra 5% on all bets I made through him to his bookie. Yes I was young and stupid. He is a doctor now and some people get the good life when they just don't deserve it.

My mother used to bring home parlay cards from work during the football season. I was about 13 years old then.
