ATLANTA -- Carl Everett rejoined the Chicago White Sox on Sunday when the outfield slugger was traded from the Montreal Expos for minor league pitchers Jon Rauch and Gary Majewski.

Everett played the final 73 games of last season for Chicago. He started 2003 with the Texas Rangers, then was sent to the White Sox on July 1. He batted .301 with 10 home runs and 41 RBI with Chicago. He signed a $7.5 million, two-year contract with Montreal in December.

This season, the injury-plagued Everett has a .252 average, with two homers and 14 RBI in 39 games. He missed 30 games with an injured shoulder early, then hurt his ankle while on a minor league rehab assignment.

When he returned to the Expos' lineup, he aggravated that ankle injury and went back on the disabled list.

The White Sox needed another outfielder, with Magglio Ordonez still slowed by a knee injury. He came off the disabled list last week after missing 36 games, but he has been able to play only as a designated hitter since his return.

Rauch, 6-foot-11, was 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA at Triple-A Charlotte, while Majewski was 3-3 with a team-high 14 saves.

Carl Everett ...why? The guy is second to Todd Zeile in teams played for it seems...can't figure why they'd bother.

I don't think Everett was very happy in Montreal and this could prove to be a good pickup for the Sox. We'll see how he does the next few weeks.

The best is when he played for texas, and someone whipped a cell phone at him and it hit him. Then he picked it up and threw it, and hit some guy in the head. A guy in the stands, who happened to be part of the Rangers orginazation.

They showed it on sportscenter in slow motion, man that was the best.

They gave up WAY too much to get him. He is a serviceable player no doubt, but they gave up two very promising pitchers for him and that is a huge mistake IMO.

Should sound very familiar coming from a Royals fan

Carl Everett is one of my favorite Red Sox players of all time. I would love to have him back in the Epstien era. If they're going to do things like play Millar why not have Carl back?!

He was a model citizen on the ChiSox last year. Tells me the Big Hurt isn't coming back this year.
